Yeah, I find the JL just a bit small even for one person. I'm within a month or two of releasing a rear platform for sale that I've tested and used pretty thoroughly. It's a 60/40 split, but I'm going to have the option to make the 40 side a half platform so that it's easier to get inside and still sit there while you're setting up. It makes a huge difference IMO and you get the added benefit of being able to put the drivers seat all the way down for naps (or when I don't want to sleep on the top of the Jeep.
I’m toying with the idea of making a platform that goes across. So would fit between the front seats and the roll bar. I measured and it’s just about 5’2 across from driver’s side quarter panel to passenger side quarter panel. Then I could store stuff underneath and it’s pretty much always setup. I know there are a few shelves out there but they are made for gear, not for people.

That's pretty much what I did, but I extended it all the way to the back at the level of the rear body. There's a surprisingly amount of room available once the seats are removed.

there is actually a Gap Hider available from J**p that came on some trims.
i got it and it makes a huge difference for (me and) my dog.

The Deep Sleep solo mat is 72" long and it fits snug. I wish I had a little more room, but at 6'1" I sleep comfortably. I actually removed my tailgate table to give me mire room. I miss not having it, but I had to made a sacrifice. I run a 3" dog bed in the cargo area to level it out some with a foam roller cut to size for the trench. The DS mattress is really good. I could actually live out of my Jeep and might do it one day.

Why the heck would you bleep out the word Jeep on a Jeep forum talking about Jeeps?

Is the gap hider the flat piece that shingles the hole when the seats are down or is there something else?

yes.

in typical Stella fashion, though, you’ll have to source the brkts that are required to mount it separate from the Hider itself.

For just myself I used a single piece of plywood 24" x 48". I push and tilt the passenger seat all the way forward, fold down the back seats, lay the plywood on top of the back seat and scoot it all the way forward to touch the back of the passenger front seat. This fills the gap between front seat and headrest of back seat and also the gap between back of back seat and floor of cargo area. You can get plywood precut to those dimensions at your local Lowes or Home Depot.

Removable & fits over folded rear seats. Using the Xprite Sleeping Pad.... will finish painting and adding black carpet to it tomorrow.

Edit: Finished the project. New photos added
Great setup! I made a similar one and added a kitchen in the cargo drawer below. Now we can sleep and cook with comfort.

Shoot, it looked like a good tent to buy. It's unavailable in the store now. I may just go with the rightline tent. Only thing I worry about is my back window. Worried my Jeep may be too tall for the tent with back glass lifted.
I have tried 6 various SUV tents with my JKU and now JLU. The rear glass for each Erangler had to be tied down.. I have been sleeping inside Erangler for 12 yrs; because I can’t find a SUV tent that works properly. Pitching a tent isn’t always an option when trying to get shut eye in Urban areas and at rest stop(Rest Stop signs crack me up: Warning No Sleeping!)

You can buy cheap fold-up memory foam pads on Amazon. I bought a single wide one, about 4" advertised thickness and it proved to be the minimum thickness for me. I liked the convenience of sleeping in the Jeep, it didn't take much setup. I have a rear cargo shelf and traveled fairly light. I would put some things in the driver's seat and put my folding chairs and table on the cargo shelf, then crawl in the back. And it was real convenient the night that it rained on me (in Moab). It would take careful packing and/or a short trip for 2 people to sleep in the back. I take a lot of trips with my daughter and we typically use her tent. We have done enough trips with the same gear that we can set everything up pretty quickly and pack it up pretty quickly. If I'm by myself it seems like more trouble than it is to have to set up the tent, pack up the tent, etc.

Question- how do most of you get into the Jeep when sleeping in the back? I had my mattress on the passenger side, ice chest on the drivers side behind the rear door, food and things on the cargo shelf. I would back into the rear drivers side door, sit on the folded down seat, back in farther then I could swing my legs around and get into the sleeping bag. I couldn't figure out how to get in facing forwards and make it work any better.
I prefer to sleep on passenger side for safer egress. I also sleep with my head to the rear this way I can see the front on my Wrangler by just lifting my head instead to twisting my whole body around to see the front. I also use a black curtain draped behind the front seats. This makes the jeep look unoccupied when casual passenger bays look inside(of course these issue are predominantly for the urban or WalMart camping). Again safer on the passenger side and better safety for seeing people peeking inside.
