I thought I would give a little feedback on those thinking about sleeping in the back of their rig. My wife and I just returned from a short 5 day overlanding adventure in Colorado. We are not fancy travelers and have backpacked in the past so sleeping in tight quarters did not worry us too much. I'm 6'1" and she is 5'9" so maybe a little taller then average. Prior to our trip, I purchased a couple of the deepsleep foam/air mattresses and they fit like a glove. I had already installed an elevated interior cargo rack and that made all the difference on keeping our gear safe, accessible but out of the way. The only item we left outside the Jeep when we slept was our cooler, which worked out nice because the nights were cold (upper 30's) so it kept our food /ice packs cold. Typically we would have tent camped and it was nice not having to set down a tent with the morning dew on it. Anyway, I don't post much but I thought I would provide a little perspective for those thinking about taking the plunge with maybe sleeping in the back of their rig. A couple of other quick things that worked out well for us were, 2 nets over the back windows that we rolled down about 6" and a small battery operated fan that kept the air moving inside all night.

Good on you! My wife and I are set up so that if encounter bad weather we can sleep in our 2dr jeep. We are not tall 5'8" on a good day and 5'2". We sleep on a platform. Might have to look at these pads.

I've done almost exactly the same thing except on a trip by myself. I'm 6'-4" and if I sleep a little bit diagonal it works fine. I built my own elevated shelf to hold my gear and while sleeping I put as much gear as possible in the front seats. I made window screens out of some leftover material for house window screens. I fastened the edges and they slide over the doors from the top.

I have the Deepsleep solo that I bought from a member on the forum. I love it so much. I use it when it's me and my dog on a trip. My lady is more of an Airbnb kinda person these days.

Prior to our trip, I purchased a couple of the deepsleep foam/air mattresses and they fit like a glove.
The Deep Sleep website says both sizes are good for the JLU:

Larger Mattress: 6ft long. 52 inches wide between doors. 42 inches wide between wheel wells. 10 inches tall when inflated.

Smaller Mattress: 5ft 6 inches long, 52 inches wide between doors, and 6 inches tall when inflated.

Which size is shown in your pictures? Do I see a thin pad upon which your mattress is laid?

Also, can you direct me to the elevated interior cargo rack that you used?

Thanks.

I went with 2 of the self-inflated deep sleep self-inflatable mattresses, together they fit very tight with no gaps.
This is the rack I went with, less expensive than some of the higher end brands and seems to be rock solid.

Lol
For now my better half is still ok with “roughing it for a few days”, by day 4 or 5 she is wanting a shower and normal bed

Did everyone order the deepsleep direct? The shipping charges seem pretty steep!
