I've got a 2020 Sport S with halogens. Installed Skyline LED taillights and they are doing some strange things. Here's a video of what they are doing

Sometimes the left taillight does this non-stop, sometimes the right, sometimes both. I have a trailer wiring harness installed also. Not sure if that has anything to do with it? Anyone else have this problem? Extreme Terrain won't allow me to send them back because they were open box and I'm outside the window of return.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

Also it only seems to do this while the engine is running.

Do they come with an inline resistor? I’m not familiar with that brand but when replacing other incandescent lights with LEDs, I’ve seen some odd behavior.

Hi thanks for replying. They have a built in resistor. They are supposed to be plug and play. I attached a picture to show what they look like

When it’s doing the chase effect, are you turn signal/blinkers on, or it it just the tail lights?
Also, do all functions work as expected when the engine is NOT running?

Just the tail lights.. It only does the chase effect when the engine is running and my running lights or headlights are on. If my headlights/running lights are off the lights stay off completely. The blinkers work fine and dont seem to have any effect on the issue. But once the blinker is off, it starts doing it's chase thing again.

It seems like the chase happens when I first turn my headlights on for one cycle around the tail light. Like the lights are doing a quick self test at start up. It almost seems like when it does the continous chase it may be stuck in a self test mode. I might try to take everything apart again and check the connections. Maybe put some dielectric grease between the connections.

If I pulled up behind you and saw that, I would assume you did it on purpose. I've heard when changing to LED headlights you sometimes need a re-flash from the factory or you can buy a taser and do it yourself. Not sure if the same thing would be neccessary for tailights.

Do you have the OEM trailer wiring harness or did you install the harness aftermarket? Other than the tail lights, is there any other electrical mods that would affect the LED tail lights?

You may want to do a pin out check to make sure the terminals are inserted into the correct cavities on the tail light connectors. Will Extreme Terrain provide you with any tech support? It would be nice it they would send you a pair of "known good" lights to test.

Maybe your open box lights are defective.

I just started looking into doing a reflash with a taser. I dont know much about the taser programmer yet.

Its weird because sometimes the lights seem to work perfectly.

The harness is an aftermarket harness. I do have some aftermarket LED headlights. Maybe that is causing some problem? Extreme Terrain basically said too bad, and suggested I contact the manufacturer.

What is a pin out check? Would i just take apart the connections and make sure there are no bent pins etc?

Thank you all for your help so far I appreciate it!

It is confirming that each wire in the tail light wiring harness is inserted into the correct cavity of each tail light connector for both aftermarket tail lights. Sometimes things go wrong in assembly.

Oh, I gotcha. It seems to happen on the drivers side more than the passengers side. When I get a chance to take them off I'll check to compare the pins from both sides.

Have you tried reaching out to the manufacturer directly? They probably won’t be able to help with a return, but may help you troubleshoot.

I will give that a shot too. I asked Extreme Terrain if they could give me the contact info for them and they never replied. I'll dig around a bit and see if I can find the info
