When I started doing trails to remote camping spots I thought about what equipment I should get. Off the top of my head I bought a short shovel, a small bottle jack (plus some wood blocks from my garage), a tool set including long breaker bar and 22mm deep socket for lug nuts, lithium battery jump starter, jumper cables, suitable air pump for airing up, tow strap. My wife bought me a first aid kit and a Garmin Inreach Mini.

But about the shovel, I went to Lowes (or Home Depot) and looked at what they had. I picked one that was long enough to be useful but short enough that I could carry it. I have a cargo shelf in the back that I built so I mounted the shovel under the shelf with some bolts adn wing nuts.

I keep an old e tool in the back. Can't remember the last time I used it, until today. Came across a 1980s 4wd pick up with bald tires and a Kia 2wd suv both in a snow bank. They were coming around an icy corner and somehow missed hitting each other, but the PU was front first into a snowbank and the Kia went about 10 feet into the snowbank and was high centered. I pulled the PU out no problem. There wasn't any place to put a strap on the Kia so the digging began. Another guy showed up with a e tool and in about 30 minutes we had her out.

Shovels

You know folks there are many post about accessories. Yet I seldom see post about shovels or holders. Fact is for off roading I would not go without one.

Get yourself a shovel holder folks.

What say you??
