I use a ZoLeo device when exploring and I’m looking for a better way to carry or mount it in the Jeep. I know there are different ways and places to mount them. Curious how everyone is carrying or mounting their device.

How do you carry or mount yours and why did you choose that method of mount?

Photos would be awesome. Thanks everyone.

Sorry it’s not in the shot, I was still in my driveway and hadn’t gotten to Canada yet, but this is where I had my Zoleo for my Arctic Ocean trip last summer. Put a small lanyard around the left bullet point mount, and clipped the Zoleo mini carabiner to the lanyard. Think the lanyard was from a GoPro, 1/4” strap barely big enough for my hand with a small cord loop. Most of the time I never even clipped it in, the Zoleo just rode very well on the dash right there. Never had to dig it out of the passenger footwell after a washboard left hand bend in the road

Here's the dashboard tray that I use, and the specific RAM ball and arm required for my use case. The cradle, which accepts the same RAM ball on the backside, is specific to the Delorme (now Garmin) inReach satcomm device, so no soup link for you! ;)

The tray also serves as a mounting point for my GoPro clone dash camera.

Possibly there's a matching cradle for your ZoLeo.

Get an iPhone then you don’t need an extra device.

I chose the rail system for universal compatibility. I like having my inReach in the windshield to facilitate GPS fix. I like it easily visible so I can keep an eye on battery level. I like it on the dash near the steering wheel next to my phone for easy grab-and-go. I plan to run USB charging cables inside the dash and under the rail to keep cords tidy.

Thanks but I’ve heard from others that have compared the new iPhone services to a dedicated device that it’s not as reliable.
I have an iPhone and an Inreach Mini 2. I am hoping Apple continues to improve its satellite network and I can sell the Garmin at some point. It remains to be seen if iPhone satellite services will remain free.

I used Jeepuniq grab handle mounts for my InReach mini and Midland radios. Works awesome, no idea what it does to the airbag though lol

I’m indirectly monitoring that too since I’m paying monthly services for both. I’m a land surveyor with lots of experience with survey-grade GPS receivers. I know the newer iPhone releases have much more powerful duel frequency GPS chips which can receive signals from not only the USA-based GPS satellite constellation but also 2-3 other satellite systems from other countries. All of this helps the GPS chip dial into a more precise location quicker IF the software and memory on the iPhone is sufficiently able to handle that. (Which I doubt at this time) It should as long as there is clear sky to receive the signals but is severely limited by the very minimalistic antenna built into the iPhone. InReach, ZOLEO, etc receive signals directly from their own satellites so it is theoretically more reliable.

That’s an option. I have a bulletpoint grab bar mount that I sometimes use for my tablet. May try this as an option. Thanks. I think those two radios could certainly be projectiles if the air bag ever deployed.

Yes, don't mount stuff in front of the passenger airbag. Shotgun blast to the face is bad enough without projectiles being involved!

I keep the Inreach on a rail within reach (pun intended) of the driver, so that hopefully if there is a rollover or such then I'll at least be able to signal for help even if I can't move out of the driver's seat. Assuming the rail system stays put during a rollover and assuming someone regains consciousness, etc.

Agreed, probably this mount is fine for my Inreach, I think the airbag would just blast it towards the center console if anything. The radios mounted up higher do have me a bit concerned, so I usually leave them off unless I'm offroading.
