I love DV. Haven’t spend as much time there as you have, but have been four or five times. It’s neat how different it is each trip. People think deserts never change. Nothing could be further from the truth.
You are right on that, deserts are beautiful places at the right time of the year. I lived in the Sonoran Desert and have been all over it from as far N to as Far South down to the sea of Cortez.

The list of issues that Jeep is aware of and refuses to address is quite extensive.
Figure once a design is finalized and in production, for cost savings, the only things that will get addressed are…
  • safety items mandated by the NHTSA or states’ attorneys general (auto mfrs. would not voluntarily issue a recall unless the costs of lawsuits is expected to exceed fixing the problem—cynical, but look at the history)
  • things that break so frequently under warranty it gets too expensive to ignore
  • occasional model year ‘refreshes’ that make the vehicle more attractive to new/existing buyers and/or keep the design relevant
If the fender liner ‘works’ in 80% of situations, why bother? Let the aftermarket take care of it. If the vehicle were perfected, we’d be want for nothing.

I’m guessing all the sponsors here would agree. ;)

Does anyone have a picture handy for posting to show the portion of the liner susceptible to being windblown and where the zip-tie/wire fixes were done?
