The factory skids are stout and do their job.
I don't know what kind of skids come from the factory with the Rubicon, but on my Willys Sport EcoDiesel; It's going to be easier to name the things that are protected than the things which aren't protected from the factory.

Transfer Case
SCR
And as a technicality, the fuel tank has a hardened plastic skid plate.

Beyond that I'll let figure out what kind of detrimental parts are unprotected.

As an added note, I do have a skid plate on my fuel filter (ASFIR) and my lower control arms (ArcTec)

They'll do their job until they're insufficient, right? And then you're screwed.
I aint had a problem yet and Ive hit a bunch of shit with them. Using not having skids as an excuse to not go wheeling is lame as fuck cause its kinda bullshit.

Youre gonna have similar skids to @Sean L in his Sahara and Ive seen him scrape all over all kinds of shit and has had 0 issues. Those stock steps he has have seen more action than many welded on sliders and have taken it like a champ. Stop making excuses and go do it, then maybe you will have more motivation to do more useful shit to your Jeep.

As a matter of fact, they're more stout than you'd think too. Dude out of NC who writes/edits for Driving Line dragged his JT on 3" of lift through the Rubicon with the stock skids:

Gas tank skid held up better than the Rubi rails everyone holds onto.

Yes, he's on 40s, but guarantee that JT's skids saw harder wheeling than 85%+ of folks who slap full belly systems on their Jeeps.

The stock skids are not a deterrent to wheeling IMO. Send it.

Can confirm. They screech over rocks and don't crunch...
It's definitely your side steps polymer rock rails that do the crunching.

Who said they don't go wheeling without skids?

No seriously, I'd love to see that quote!

Stop making excuses and do what exactly?

@yokramer I think you missed a page or two. You should go back and reread.

Think of it like your forest roads out there in Colorado, they have varying degrees of obstacles.

Though no rock crawling yet. Maybe that'll be different after this weekend.

Overlanding != off roading

The only known update/change for '25 is the 4xe and the 4xe version of the Gladiator, yet no one knows what exactly those changes will entail. You said you weren't looking at those, so you should be fine on getting an ICE '24.

As someone else has said in other posts, the only thing guaranteed to change is the price, and that will go up.

They already refreshed the interior for the '24, so there might be some minor tweaks, probably along the same line as when they eliminated the interior lights rocker switch on the '23 models. Things you might not even notice or care.

They will most likely change the packages around although I doubt they change the features themselves, just how they bundle them and what comes standard in each trim level.

The ONLY reason I would wait for an ICE '25 model is if you are very hard set on a particular color and are willing to wait and see if it pops during that ordering period.

If I were to order an ICE only this time around, I would probably get the XR package, or whatever they are calling it, the hard top (no soft top) and the half doors. You can only get the soft top OR the half doors as it is a space issue and the half doors are 4000 times harder to get aftermarket than the soft top. I would probably ask the dealer to order me the soft top separately and see if they couldn't add it to the loan or something.
Did I read this correctly? You can only order either the soft top or the half doors? That's crazy. I could care less about the hard top...looks like in going to have to get the HT with half doors and soft top aftermarket for MY25...

Yeah, when you get a hard top, it comes "installed" on the Jeep of course, with the soft top taking up the rest of the rear. It's a pretty big box and the seats are folded down.

I wish I had done that actually, ordered the hard top, which I really like (especially with the sun rider top), and then the half doors, which would be packed in the back. I could have always ordered the soft top later.

I do enjoy both for sure, but you can at least get the soft top afterward, but those half-doors are unobtanium in the after-market or even with the dealer.
