I know exactly what youāre talking about. It happens to me every day when I go home. Iām headed down hill to a stop sign and going really slow, 25mph and under. Right before the stop sign it wil abruptly down shift to first. I assumed that 1st gear in the Rubi was excessively low on purpose for when youāre off road. This is also my first Jeep with 4.10 gears, I thought that might be it also. Anyway, I think itās normal. My auto transmission is having a shifting issue from 2nd gear to 1st gear when slowing to a stop. Itās smooth right up to that point then it makes a very hard shift into 1st gear (the whole Jeep lurches forward). It seems to happen the most when the auto start/stop is off and the engine is warm. Itās not every time but very frequently. Took it to dealer, on the printout then said they couldnāt replicate the issue but in a text they said the tech felt it happen but said it is normal for an 8 speed transmission.
Any thoughts or similar issues from anyone?

Yes. I traded it in for a JK. Iām sure there is a software fix for it.Did you find a fix for your Grand Cherokee?

This is FCA's service department battle mantra. I get this answer every time for over a decade. My auto transmission is having a shifting issue from 2nd gear to 1st gear when slowing to a stop. Doesn't sound right. Take it to the dealer and demonstrate it for them.I definitely need a second opinion.... the car jumping forward when coming to a stop is not safe
Yup, same. My 18 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk was identical as described by OP. I never cared and drove it without issue. After trading in for my JLUR, I haven't experienced anything period.Thats pretty normal for that transmission. My JL does it and our Grand Cherokee with the same 8 speed does it. Just good 'ol Jeep quality.
I picked up my 2018 JL Rubicon automatic 2 weeks ago and am having the same downshifting problem when coming to a stop. I have owned a lot of Jeeps in the past, Grand Cherokees, Wranglers- 6 speed manuals and automatics, and this 2018 automatic is NOT downshifting/slowing down properly. I never had this issue in my Grand Cherokee with the same 8 speed auto trans. My auto transmission is having a shifting issue from 2nd gear to 1st gear when slowing to a stop. Yup. My transmission refused to go into gear at a stoplight yesterday. Totally locked up. Dealership told me it needs to be totally replaced. !!My auto transmission is having a shifting issue from 2nd gear to 1st gear when slowing to a stop.
