I’ve had my Willys now for a few weeks. Absolutely LOVE it. So much that my kids begged me to pack it up over our bigger car for a 6hr drive.

So what happened? After I loaded it up, I start the car. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT is suddenly on.

Guess I am unpacking and switching vehicles. How could this be. Have been driving it daily. No issues. Only a few hundred miles on the car. And before a trip, the light goes on.

What error code(s) were displayed when you hooked up a code reader?

Usually a good hot cup of coffee helps in the morning, but I'm afraid that's a... non-starter in this case. ☕

Cheers,

Did you make sure all your fuses under hood are all the way seated/ pushed in?

Update: Just got back from my trip (wish I knew the code before leaving the Jeep at home) and scanned the code

Code P0456 - a small leak detected in the Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) system

Sounds like that is likely a loose gas cap. Strange because I hadn’t gotten gas in over a week but I am guessing I just didn’t have enough miles yet for the car to register the issue. MIL came on for my first start after the 300 mile mark.

MIL is still on even though I cleared the code and re-tightened the gas cap. Is it worth bringing the car in to get checked out or wait to see if this clears after a few rides?

Chrysler products have the most sensitive and erratic evap systems. If the code returns quickly, it is worth a trip to the dealer to get the light off.
