Probably wont work. The current dealer likely flagged it. And their diagnostics computer would likely detect the tuner footprints as well. You could try though, what do you have to lose?

The thing is that Stellantis will demand that the engine is returned so they can inspect it. They will want a full diagnostic printout to go with it. If corporate discovers it, they wont reimburse the dealer for the repair.

OP has Ohio in his profile. Where does he say Canadian? We all basically know each other. ;)
It wasn't the OP. Post 48 is where someone said $9k canadian. It's in the second sentence. :)

Why would you need to replace hard parts like the timing cover and oil pan? Did you catch the engine on fire?
the head gasket failed and the driver drove the vehicle until it overheated and the engine seized. and then the heads were warped so i wanted to put a new timing cover to avoid potential leaks once its all back together. this was a different application than jeep, it was transverse mounted in a ram pro master so if it leaked i'd have to pull the engine all over again just to do the timing cover.

given the circumstances... the spark plugs being melted and OP saying the dealer telling him the valvetrain was basically completed melted.. if it were my jeep i'd want to put everything brand new for peace of mind. but also, after doing this at work, i would never buy a crate engine from mopar with my own money seeing how much it costed and how long it took to get all the parts, id be going the used hemi route without a second thought.

i was also wondering, if they never even diagnosed the cause of the issue.. whats to say theres something wrong with his high pressure fuel pump or the PCM is over fueling or something unknown going on in the background that doesnt end up being rectified with a new 2.0L crate engine. what if that melts the new engine too? i can guarantee you they arent going to warranty an engine you installed yourself no matter how soon it blows up lol

Which should still be enough for a complete engine at ~$6700 US. A long block shouldn't be more than $4k if you ask me. Dealer quoted my buddy $7500 for a 2.0t long block. If their prices are that high, a hemi swap with a $3500 compete junkyard/salvage 5.7L hemi engine makes way more sense to me.
Have you ever done an engine swap? You’re not swapping in a hemi for less than 10k.

A long block isn’t a “crate engine”. It’s a long block.

VS buying a $7500 2.0t long block, you're still money ahead in my opinion. Haven't engine swapped anything as new as a JL, but all the parts/wiring/ecu/etc are available (not cheap). I never said you'd have that $3500 complete used hemi in and running for free. When dealers are charging $12k plus to replace engines, you can bet I won't spend that just too end up back at stock.

No, you just buy a takeoff / salvaged engine for a few thousand and install it straight in, no mods needed. Back on the road for 5-6k.

Or less, if you do it yourself. Generally, with threads like this, I assume the OP has no means to do that level of work.

I haven't searched, but my buddy couldn't find a take off under $6500. At that point if I was sticking with the 2.0t, I'd rather have a brand new long block for the extra $1k. And thus for just $2500 more I'd go hemi swap. Slippery slope, but I'd rather spend $10k for a major upgrade than $6500 for a lateral move.

I would agree, so long as the plan is to keep it and not sell it. My last JLUR needed an engine and I thought of all options. One of my limiters, at least as I saw it, was the 6 speed manual transmission which is not as robust as the auto 8 speed. So adding significant power (like a 392) wasn’t super feasible / smart. In the end, I decided I would get the engine back in (3.6). and sell it. Funny thing is I sold it to the dealer, full disclosure that the engine was not original, was a take-out. Dealer couldn’t care less, had it on the lot “certified pre owned” and sold it that way.

UPDATE
sorry all for the lapse in posting for anyone interested in this mess.

No no luck with warranty Chrysler sent engineers down to look at it and they determined that that couldn’t have happened u less the ECM parameters were tampered with ?. I just ended up having the dealership swap the engine. 13 thousand out the door. That being said I got a 100k warranty on it and it was done in about 4 days (after they received the engine which took a month). After running the numbers I found it would have cost me about 10 thousand to do it myself, the crate engine is 8k after taxes plus all of the fluids and miscellaneous junk. And then there is my time which I don’t have. I considered replacing the head and the valves etc which would have been relatively easy and definitely cheaper but my luck I would have gotten it back together and the block would have been cracked or warped who knows.
Anyway thanks to all of you for the great advice and support cool people in this community.
