Question about aux battery delete.

2022 Jeep JL unlimited. the aux battery is dying and after reading I don't think I need it.

I removed fuse 42 and the cable on the 13mm nut.

Jeep no longer had power.. Hooked it back up and it it works fine and has power. (I remove the one shown in all the video's posts from others *the one with the taller threaded stud on it. (nearest to sidewall)

Are there certain years the aux battery delete method does not work? (no it's not an etorque it's the v6.)

I don’t remember the date but the cable locations changed places on the main battery connection. I have a 2020 and mine had different size negative wires. I had to remove the narrower of the 2 cables and its location was closest to the passenger side. Have you tried disconnecting the other cable?

I did not. the first runthrough upset the cluster/ac and controls and I stopped there.
I can try that tomorrow

was worried after everything electronic acted odd post powercycle
**I now know after reading this forum that's normal and it should "remap" all the devices within a day or two **I hope :)

But I found no other post saying it was the other cable.

I will try that tomorrow and report back **I'll see if I can trace the ground to the frame/aux box to confirm before I unplug it again

I am sure there is someone on here who has a 2022 and did the aux delete and will provide the correct answer. That is what makes this forum great.

I dug a little further.

This person claims the same.

I will picture and document what I end up removing :)
Yes, the pictures in this link are correct. This is what I did with my 2021 and my 2025. It's annoying that the extra stud is attached to the aux negative cable so you can't use it to make additional connections if you do the aux delete.

When I did this on both of mine I didn't notice any weird electrical issues on the first start up, at least nothing that doesn't occur when you disconnect and reconnect the battery.

so.

I removed the correct negative this time.

And 2 things happened.

The AUX Battery was isolated.

And the car did not start.

The car did not start because after 2mins of being unplugged from the charger the main battery was at 10 volts.

Surprisingly, the AUX was at 12.4v at this point.

I guess I'm buying a new main battery, I was not expecting the AUX to be good lol.

Thanks everyone for the help :)

2 hours of sitting 11.3 on main.
12.4 solid on aux.

I might hook back up the aux for now with the new battery. still deciding

Hi @Blu3fan:

A couple of thoughts here.

* While, if one of the two batteries is to die it will most likely been the Aux battery first, it can of course be the main. Regardless of which it is, connecting a new battery up with the old working one is a bad idea. I suggest that you either bypass the Aux battery or replace both the Aux and main.

* As I think you realize by now, no, there are not certain years that the aux battery delete method does not work in otherwise dual AGM battery JLs.

* When having people locate the correct cable to remove, precisely because of the very cable location swap discussed above, I recommend that they start at the body ground location on the passenger's front fender and follow the (body ground) cable that starts there to the main battery's negative post . This is the cable that should remain untouched and connected, while the other factory cable is the one that should be removed and electric taped up at its ends to prevent it from coming in contact with metal. I suggest this approach because it works regardless of model year and cable swaps. Additionally, I refer to the cable requiring removal as the other "factory" cable because when people say "remove the smaller cable" (while its true that this cable is smaller than the body ground cable) they can sometimes mistakenly remove a (non-factory) cable that was installed aftermarket to this main battery negative terminal point.
