Mine is also a 400P. The base and handle might not get hot but I have melted a lot of air hoses and carpet with this part:

I must be lucky or maybe more careful how I set it in the bag. never burned a singe air hose or carpet in 12 years. fingers crossed my luck holds out...

Just a note for those who aren't familiar with vehicle wiring. The 7 pin connector is connected to a 40A fuse. It will work for a smaller compressor like the viar that only draws 30A. Don't try this method with a larger compressor like the arb, the larger smittybilt, or any of the twin head high flow compressors as they pretty much all draw between 50-90A. I don't mind popping the hood for more than 2x the cfm. Yes it still gets hot but the heavy canvas bag I keep it in doesn't melt. I can only imagine how long the viar would take to air up all four 39s at just 2.3cfm. The smittybilt has been a tank for 15+ years and its 5.6 cfm is quick enough I don't feel like I'm waiting long after attaching it to a tire.
