I did the 392 axle swap and suspected I had 3:73 gears. You can pop the cover and count gears but I just spun the driveshaft and counted how many times it spins to one tire rotation. if its about 3 and 3/4 turns then your 3:73. if its closer to 4 then 4:10 etc. I programmed in 3:73 gears and my tire size and am within 1mph or so on the speedometer so thinking that was close enough
So your axles have steel knuckles?

So that’s another head scratcher…I used Jscan for tire size and gears and the speedometer doesn’t seem off. The more I’m thinking about it maybe I need to have gps running while I’m driving to see for sure if the Speedo is off but it seems pretty spot on.
GPS validation is the way to go

I'm still pretty sure if it has steel knuckles it's an xr and 4.56s. No 392s have come with 4.10s. It would either be 3.73 or 4.56s. Sure the seller could have regeared, but who would spend that kind of $ to go from 3.73 to 4.10?

The aluminum knuckles aren't black, like what you posted in the photo earlier. Your old axles had aluminum and are likely a natural aluminum color. I would also think that a magnet would stick to your new ones and not the old ones.

CV shafts have rubber boots covering where your u-joints are showing in between the C and the knuckle..

Yes I know the knuckles are steel for sure. My old knuckles on my m186 and m200 were aluminum.

Reread the messages between the guy I bought them off and he said it was a regular 2022 jlur with the upgraded option of the steel knuckles…was that an option you could do? Anyone know that?

Here's a video on checking gear ratio. To be more accurate, you can rotate the tire 2 revolutions, 4, 6, 8, or 10 revolutions and divide accordingly.

Since black paint is in abundant supply in the U.S., I'd put a magnet on the knuckles, just so I'd know for sure.

I tried to look up that part number on the sticker. No joy.

Wasn't an option ever, came in the xr's and JT mojaves. I'd almost guarantee they are 4.56s.

I think only the xrs got steel knuckles which means I'd jump all over it if you're looking for a front axle upgrade. Even if you want to keep your FAD you can move it to the new axle.
Is the FAD shift fork the same on the smaller axles?

Thanks I’ll watch the video. The knuckles have to be steel because there was rust where they connect to the toe rod and drag link.

So I tried this…I think I have 3.73 gears…it didn’t make 2 full rotations….I popped up one tire, marked it, marked a spot on the driveshaft, one full tire rotation resulted in almost 2 full driveshaft rotations. Leading me to believe these have 3.73 gears. I’m reprogramming now with Jscan and will go pick up my son later to see if I can tell a difference. When I had it programmed to 4:10 gears it just didn’t seem right….I dont know how to explain it. It seemed like when I had my 315’s and 3.45 gears…I’m wondering if having it geared differently even though it seems negligible from 3.45 to 3.73 it will change the way it feels/drives

That would indicate 2-1 axle gears which doesn't math out.

Man so I’m doing that wrong?!? lol WTH!?!?

The video said count the driveshaft, spin the tire….i got something like 1.8-1.9….was a full 2 rotations of the driveshaft by the time the tire was back to its start point. So that’s wrong?
