Hello guys, my Jeep is overheating again when it’s parked. I’ve already taken it to the mechanic in the past for the same problem, and they’ve changed the water pump and then the engine. Now it overheats when parked, and when I start to accelerate or move the Jeep, the temperature goes back down. By the way, the air conditioning is not as cold as before. Could it be the radiator fans? Although they make a lot of noise when the temperature rises.

Do you have any idea what it could be this time?

Is it really that hot, get a IR thermometer and shoot the temps on the radiator, hoses, etc.

if it is that hot, thermostat first thought. Are you losing coolant?

Anything blocking air flow in front of the radiator? Just for $hits and grins, see if you can tell which way the fan(s) are turning. Maybe they're wired backwards and turning the wrong way! You should be able to do this by having someone turn on/off the A/C while watching the fan(s).

It doesn't have any leaks.

I thought that, but it wouldn’t make sense for it to be the thermostat if it only overheats when iddling and not when I’m driving.
Yes, it can very well be a bad thermostat.

You asked and I offered a suggestion. Take it or leave it.

Are your fans kicking in when it overheats?

My 4xe has been having overheating issues too. I took it into a dealer a few months ago. They said it checked out fine with no leaks. I’ve been losing a lot of coolant. I took it in for service today and asked to see the service history. Previous owner had overheating and coolant leaks too. I think the head gasket has gone bad. May be same issue with your 2.0t. I’ll report back when I hear something from the dealer. Coolant issues are usually any one or combination of thermostat, clogged radiator, bad water pump, bad head gasket. Anyone know how to get all the service records? Both dealers have refused to give me a copy.

Hold on a second. This was happening before having the water pump and engine replaced? And it kept happening afterwards?

PM me your VIN and I'll be able to give you anything logged within service library for it.

Edit; Echo PM'd me their vin and my goodness this thing is a nightmare I'd strongly suspect a blown head gasket based purely off its service history; no diagnostic needed.

The ECH has been replaced twice in under a year (LOL)
The water outlet was leaking not once but twice, one RO directly states engine was overheating
The 3-way coolant valve was replaced
The HV battery has been replaced for the B9A recall

ALL of this within a 20k mile period. Absolute ridiculous.

On a side note its been passed around every dealer like a bottle of whiskey. Just about every single dealer in the southern California area has had its way with this thing at one point or another

I would assume the engine replacement took care of that.
