Good choice. I'm a 4xe owner and got this Jeep/Merrell collaboration from wife and daughter today for birthday. I hear these blue ones are low in stock in popular sizes. But other colors available.

As someone else said, not sure what winter means to you. I have the Merrell and really like them, but they are not a winter boot. My winter may be different than you, but since you're from Denver, I'd assume your winters include snow.

I think a mid/tall boot is in order for winter. I low boot will certainly let snow and slush in over the top as you walk in the muck. I've had a number of "waterproof" boot, but the only ones that have been waterproof were leather boots, treated. Everything else just soaks up water until there is enough to overwhelm the crappy "gore" membrane.

I would recommend the Merrell for any time where you won't encounter water in any of its forms. Else, I'd recommend something more like a Danner Elk Hunter.

Not gonna lie, I was so very tempted to buy a pair of the Hydro Blue Jeep Merrels, even though that kind of bright shoe isn't my style, but just because they match my Hydro JL. ?

I wear Keen Targhee Mids, not sure what the mens' equivalent model is. These are waterproof and have good tread, and mid height gives plenty of ankle support. And they're one of the only hiking boot styles that fit my funky-shaped duck feet (extremely narrow heel, but wide toes). Fit is everything with hiking boots, so I definitely second those who recommend hitting up an REI or similar to try different brands on in person. Keens are pretty much the only brand that fits me.

I also sometimes wear my western riding boots, which don't have aggressive tread but are super comfortable and tall enough to be handy in snake areas. But not if I plan on doing any serious hiking at my destination, then I bring the Keens.

And if I'm expecting heavy mud, I take some rubber wellies that can be rinsed off easily afterwards or be slipped off and stuffed in a trash bag in the back instead of tracking mud into the Jeep.

I want to thank everyone that offered suggestions on what to check out. I went to Dicks sporting goods and looked at some merrell, timberland, sorel. Decided on the Merrell. Felt comfortable when i walked around but wasnt heavy either so i order the moab 3 mid jeep in sarge green (sadly they didnt have punk'n like my jeep) and the moab 3 goretex with the discount basically got the goretex for free.

Wasn’t for sure where to put this figure this might be a good spot.

Wondering what everyone is wearing when they go off road for footwear?

I’m looking at hiking boots specifically the merrell moab 3 mid in both the jeep version and the Goretex.

I’m looking for something that is going to be comfortable, durable, and waterproof.

I like the Jeep ones but they aren’t waterproof. Will also be using them as winter boots.

Pro/cons of this boot or any other recommendation appreciated.
Boots, you want REAL boots? USMC Expeditionary Boots comes in 3 flavors: Hot Weather, Gore-Tex and Steel Toe:

If you are going into Snake country, like Deep South and East Tx where the Rattlers, Cottonmouths, and Copperheads are a dime a dozen its Danner Snakes for me in Hot and Waterproof.

I wear these Lems that I call my wheelin boots.

This is the men's version.

They're waterproof, wide toe box and pretty comfortable. The sole is flexible which is what I prefer in a shoe. I've had mine since March '22 and they are holding up pretty well. I don't use them for hiking or every day though. Only for offroad trips and usually take em off to throw on flip flops on the drive home.

pretty much my go to off road shoes ?

also I challenge anyone to find a better shoe for slick rock, it’s basically grip tape

As for actual hiking/backpacking I’m a fan of Altra Lone Peak trail runners. Zero drop, huge toe box, good grip, comfy

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I am a fan of Tanner boots. So was the wild animal that ran off with one of my boots while out camping in the desert. I left them out over night and one of them walked away. I replaced them with a set of Under Armor boots as they were the only boot that I could find in Yuma Arizona that was a size 15. The Under Armor boots are very comfortable, but I do not think they will last as long as the Tanner boots.

I have very little luck with the Keen boots. They just do not last for me. We hike a bunch and they tend to separate sole from the boot and the stitching comes undone. Boots are important to me because I find it hard to replace them when traveling. Wearing a size 15 boot often limits my shoe/boot purchasing options while traveling.

I also like a 8 in boot for the added ankle support. I also lace them up tight to add to the support of the boot. We do a lot of hiking that often includes some climbing and scrambling. To me boots are part of your safety gear. Twisting an ankle or knee because of ill fitting boots can be a big problem 10 miles from your Jeep with a two thousand foot elevation gain or loss.

You know these are specifically designed for Wrangler owners, since they lack lace hooks that get snagged in the door pocket mesh, and you are left hanging with one foot trapped in the #*&@!n? door net.

It would have been much better if the designed the doors to work with all outdoor boots, rather than design boots specifically to work with the Wrangler door.
