I guess depending where u live .. do have ur vehicle where they steal a lot? that security nut will deter most cases of it getting stolen. Unless use got some rare rims , I can't think of someone taking their time and work to take the thing off.
Right... I dread a DIY tire rotation, cant imagine trying to do it under stress waiting to hear the sound of a shotgun racking... ha ha

Tire irons are overrated, suckers… This is what AAA is for. I just call them on my cell phone and they will change the tire for me. Either that, or I just ask my wife to it.

You'll probably have a better chance to get your wife to do it, I don't think AAA is going to make it up the jeep trails. ?

Yeah that's all good, I have one too but then I'm at the mercy of a battery, I'm certainly not going to carry one in all 4 of my vehicles. What a pita that would be. I'd feel like the dunkin donut guy " time to charge the battery " LOL ?
I have three cars, but I only really worry about having enough torque to get wheel nuts off in my Jeep.

I also use my 1/2 inch impact enough that it gets a fresh battery fairly often.

Agree. Plus there’s the possibility of the battery catching on fire. Happened to a neighbor friend of mine, and caught the rear seat of his pickup on fire. Luckily, he was able to put it out before it spread much further. He was camping way out in the boonies too. Would have been a very long walk back if his entire truck burnt to a crisp.
People drive 4xes all over the place. I'm not going to lose sleep over a 3ah battery.

What are your impressions of the quality? Do you feel this one could be counted on for trail side use?

Thanks!
I bought it in an emergency situation. I was in a modified tuner car at the time. Was out of town on the highway around midnight... the cars rear wheels were cambered in so much, it wore the inside of the tires bald... so the closest store and one open at the time was Wal-Mart.

*I haven't used it for the Jeep

The build seems as good as any other foldable tire iron. Would I trust it ? Probably so, but since off road situations vary so much, it would not be my first choice.

If I wanted a hardcore off road anything goes set up, it would be a breaker bar with a socket.
But... then again, I use a HMMWV Jack Set in place of the oem set-up.

Just my 2 cents and probably not worth that... lol

SMH...I never asked you to lose sleep. Simply wanted to share an experience for the benefit of the forum.

This.

Breaker bar and socket are indispensable IMHO, and I can't say enough about the HMMWV jack, especially when used with a Safe Jack adapter. I recently got a NOS set for less than $100 and it has served as admirably as I remembered it from my Army days. For those not familiar, here's some additional background:

Hope this helps and happy Jeepin'!

There are some neat telescoping breaker bars. Amazon and Harbor Fright have them.
Ditto. I carry this one. The quality is pretty decent for what you get. There's enough detents to create a working length suitable for a variety of jobs, too. It is also certainly robust enough to serve as a field-expedient defensive weapon. A smaller version, intended to serve the same purpose, is part of my motorcycle tool kit.

I'm still confused how lugnut torque can be a range of 85 up to 125ft.lbs?....... That must be why the dealer stripped off two lugnuts a few years back, tried charging me for them too.
It's not. Pretty sure...
Axel torgue is 130 ft-lb.
Tailgate torgue is 59 ft-lb.

Over the years I've changed flats in wildly adverse conditions: -1° in a blizzard in the Rockies, all the way to 110+° in AZ. I've paid my dues. Hell, my spare weighs over 100lbs. I'll call for roadside assistance.

That said, good idea, I'll pop a breaker bar in the trunk. Just in case.

Can I reasonable use the OEM tire iron and its short length and readily undo the 130# torque?
Yes. I did this a couple months ago when one tire developed a slow leak. The factory kit worked just fine to loosen properly torqued lug nuts.

Now if you brought your Jeep to impact-crazy mechanic, all bets are off.
