Can I reasonably use the OEM tire iron and its short length and readily undo the 130# torque?
Seems I need to carry a longer breaker bar and socket but will tire of carrying extra crap.
Thanks

Consider keeping a 16" breaker bar with the appropriate size socket in your JL at all times.

I have the socket attached to the breaker bar and the tool is placed in a 18" long piece of gray, foam pipe insulation. (No rattle.. no metal to metal contact, thanks to the foam pipe insulation)

I keep this affair, in the small compartment where the scissor jack is.
Fits right in on top of the scissor jack. With the foam pipe insulation, I have no metal to metal related rattles.

I also keep an LED flash light in with the scissor jack

I learned long ago, you can be up chitt creek so to speak, sometimes trying to break lugs loose with the little tire iron that comes with the Jeep.

Once you see someone standing on a tire iron trying to break a lug loose and the lug snaps off, etc., you realize wise man/gal carries a breaker bar with socket as I do, in the vehicle at all times.

Thanks Rhinebeck01. I seem to have all these things to do all that. Consider it done.

I really didn't want a terry cloth wrap soaking up moisture, rusting, you get the idea.

my stock jack lever/nut wrench was replaced under warranty when it broke the first time it was put into use.

i carry a 4-way ‘star’ wrench to be able to deal with my own and others’ overtightened lig nuts.

There are some neat telescoping breaker bars. Amazon and Harbor Fright have them.

Since I'm a flat tire magnet, I also carry a full size bi-folding 4-way along with an additional small bottle jack. I am guilty of the terry cloth wrap, I have no rattling, but I might switch to pipe foam, good idea! However, some terry cloth could potentially come in handy on a jeep trail in a pinch. Just think about that for a few minutes.

Factory jack
Factory tire iron
21" tall, extra wide base jack
Small bottle jack
Full size 4-way
Breaker bar & socket
Can of fix-a-flat
Air compressor
Tire plug kit

Did I mention I'm a flat tire magnet?

Jeep Wrangler JL OEM tire iron question. 4-way

You can also use industrial large sized heat shrink tube over the breaker bar. I use an 18" bar with a metal pipe over the top , pinched at one end so it doesn't slide off... so I can double the length and get a shit ton more leverage.

I had planned to do the foam this weekend, but now you guys got me think8g with the shrink wrap. I have some of that around. Also interested in where you got that bifold 4-way wrench.

I carry one of these in both Jeeps, stored in the jack compartment. They have a nice angled tip the reaches into most wheels without an extra extension and collapse down to roughly half the length. One of them I have had for roughly 15 years with no issues. I also carry a deep socket specific to each jeep. They come with a cheap vinyl storage pouch that isn’t worth much but keep the wrench from rattling in the compartment.

I just carry my 1/2 cordless impact.

Work smarter, not harder.
Yeah that's all good, I have one too but then I'm at the mercy of a battery, I'm certainly not going to carry one in all 4 of my vehicles. What a pita that would be. I'd feel like the dunkin donut guy " time to charge the battery " LOL ?
