In a triumph for Jeep paint engineers/chemists, they solved the door hinge corrosion permanently on that concept by simply not putting doors on it.
Well- you could get a little corrosion around the holes you drill for the fabric on frame doors since they didn’t provide any. ?

Your meter is properly calibrated. ?

But, he says something about it being a 4xe and they're not going to make a 2dr 4xe, that they were going for showing "where we've been versus where we are" and the Dispatcher nameplate has some sort of connection to old Willys.

Uhh- the “Shortcut” is a 2 dr cut down to CJ5 length, is not the Willys Dispatcher a 4 dr ?

Not necessarily BS. I take what he said as, the "shortcut" concept used a lot of classic CJ inspired design cues. Something the new "Willys Dispatcher" uses similarly.

Yea- that’s kinda like when I told my wife I was insulting the exhaust. The AWE Switchpath did come with extra insulation. An excuse, half truth, there Will Be A 4Xe Concept Whatever It Takes, not a 2dr like it for a true classic retro, and the inspiration was a Shortened 2dr with it’s concept design and name all about it’s small size ? @The Last Cowboy posted a link to a DJ5 pic- a 2wd, low, small tired, hideous grill, box with a big sliding door is what they named it after ?

Jeep may have a more budget friendly Wrangler in the works. “The automaker may cut pounds and dollars off the current Wrangler to give us the 4x4 we’ve been waiting for” Pic is of the 2016 “Shortcut”concept -

How capable would something like this be compared to lets say a 4 door Rubicon with XR package and 4.88 gears??

I've wanted something like this for years, but they HAVE to do it right.

If the latest generation of the Suzuki Jimny (Samurai) were sold here I would have bought it instantly. What they make has to be simple, yet charasmatic. It cannot be just a cheaped up version of the Wrangler.

This concept really fits the bill. Almost like a modernized version of the Willys.

Make the carpet optional. No navigation. Heck maybe even no screen at all. Certainly no power seats. And it has to be lightweight with a small ish engine, and low gearing.

It's exciting to think of the possibilities.

Approach, departure, and ground clearance would all be better on the concept. If it came with lockers and a manual sway-bar disco in my book it would be better than a rubi.

Problem I see with concepts like this if Jeep released them they would sell out immediately, so Jeep dealers would then put an ADM on them. Then, because they were popular, Jeep would start throwing in creature comforts slowly and minimally driving up the price until the cool little purpose built Jeep suddenly sky-rocketed in cost to more than a two door sport.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a sweet concept and I would buy one in a heart beat. But if top tier jeeps now start at over $70K, there’s no way I could see jeep cutting into their profit margin to satisfy their customer base.

But, maybe I’m wrong. Ford built the maverick and while it has ticked up in price, it’s only done so marginally.

I have found a couple YouTube channels where they take the old MBs and CJ3s other vintage Jeeps down trails and they do very well overall. Even without lockers a lot of times they go places that most modern Jeeps, even rubicons wouldn't dream of. Primarily because of their small size they can just fit anywhere you point them. Think side by side but slower pace.

Interesting, yes that makes sense! So it would be cheaper and more capable but at the cost of practicality and everyday use.

I would still prefer it to my setup as i think it would be half the price

Thats an interesting take about the price increase. If that happened and these things ended up being expensive, i dont think they will sell in mass. Time will tell if they even release it

Being light weight helps a ton on those Jeeps too! They're so dang nimble that a good line and a little momentum lets you basically bounce over or through most obstacles that could hang up the bigger/heavier rigs. Like driving a golf cart!

This concept makes me want to start building my own... wouldn't chop up my existing JL to achieve it, but maybe start from a decent TJ/JK chassis and tub and go from there. Would be even better to have it actually available to buy as a no-frills off roader, but I don't have a lot of confidence in Jeep to actually offer something like this.

Not from the factory. People have added stuff like turn signals (plug n play), mirrors and wipers, etc that is necessary for the road. Depends on the state. Some get motorcycle plates through Dirt Legal (South Dakota especially, iirc), or they're limited to low speed use. Michigan has a process to get them titled with a regular plate. And the diesel can be tuned for significantly more power.
I stopped at a dealer a couple years ago, came away with this impression:

$20k
Needed wipers, mirrors, top, etc (Northern Indiana)
Then could become road legal but too slow for highway
They had a turbo upgrade kit that could bring you up to highway speed..?
- apparently it is HP limited, not gear limited.
No idea how good or bad service parts would be to find / afford.

If Jeep or Mahindra addressed those things for the same $20k, I'd be all in.

The Gladiator is built in a newer, more modern facility. The Wrangler is built in the same facility that started building WWII Jeeps. Of course nothing inside is the same, but I suspect that some compromises have been made over the years. The last major overhaul was between the TJ and JK when there was no 1997 year model.

It would be interesting to compare QC between both plants, especially when it come to fit and finish, and if the Gladiator suffers hinge corrosion at the same rate as the JL.

You have caused my 1997 Flame Red TJ to question its existence…. I think you might be referring to the changeover of the YJ to TJ when production delays caused the lack of a 1996.

*They did continuing building the YJ partially into 1996 but marketed them as 1995s. Then when the TJ was ready for production in spring of 1996, they marketed them as 1997 (early release). My 1997 rolled off the line with a Frankenstein mix of electronics. Some sensors are 1995 and some are 1997. Many are not interchangeable and you don’t know until you pull one and head to the parts counter. Luckily, in almost 30 years of ownership the inline 6 and 3 speed auto has proved rock solid..
