Yep- it is an MD, not a 5 in Military dress ?…. ~20 years ago a work friend won a full dress like new Coast Guard MB in a raffle. A beauty, like this one.
But they shouda’ left the 4WD sticker off. The spare and one Jerry can should be on the back too. Spare moved to the side for a functional tailgate on CJ’s. It’s hard to tell but it looks like the wrong grille, the headlights were deeper in the military grille. ( I had a 63 MD for many years)
Bonus point given for the split windshield, most have been replaced with a single when broken- like mine.

Why does it have three shift handles?

Why does it have three shift handles?
Because it hasn’t been upgraded to 4 with a Warn OD added ?

edit Sorry- I didn’t realize it wasn’t a joke
All 5 D-18 variants regardless of shaft size, gear ratio or 3 or 4” locating bore were twin sticks, the long one 2-4 WD, short one H-L range.
A Warn OD could be added to the PTO port on them for the 4’th stick and made a factory option on the late ones, exact year not remembered, final D-18 use 71 models.

Lots of little details that are incorrect on that old Jeep, but at over 60 years old, it's difficult to achieve perfection with anything (myself included). Even my 1980 CJ-5 wasn't perfect, but she was easily one of the best Jeeps I've ever owned and will forever regret replacing her with my '21 JL.

Yep- then it does have OD. ? I didn’t see it looking at the postage stamp size pic on my phone .
I didn't notice it on first view either. Had to go back and zoom in. Also noticed that even with the warning on the tailgate they didn't have the pintle latched properly.

I sold my AMC360 powered 79 CJ5 to fund accessories for my 21JLURD and other toys.
Somedays I really miss it. Other days, like when we go on longer rides I don't miss it so much.
Pics like yours make me miss it.

Here's a pic of mine doing what we did the most with it.

That's about 4 foot of snow we were in.

My MD didn’t do well in deep snow, with the old Detroit mechanical lockers it would plow straight ahead regardless of how the wheels were turned…. Winch assisted steering was a PITA. When I got them my cousin said “yer not gonna like them in front” … Yep.

Growing up Dad had a 69 that he put lockers front and rear, it was the same way. So he replaced the front with a limited slip. I've know of others that would only lock one front hub while in the snow.
