Growing up Dad had a 69 that he put lockers front and rear, it was the same way. So he replaced the front with a limited slip. I've know of others that would only lock one front hub while in the snow.
Uhh- Damn, I uh, well, geeezz, stupid me, I wasn’t smart enough to leave one hub unlocked. Honestly- I just had a Now Why Didn’t I Think Of That moment, after 48 years.

That 4th shifter is probably a PTO shifter. OD is usually further forward.
I'll have 6 shifters in my CJ2A. Twin stick PTO, OD, and normal 3.

That there’s a REAL Jeep! Not like these new fancy fandango JL Wranglers we drive today.

Imagine if everybody had vehicles like that still... No more cutting each other off doing 85 on the interstate anymore and all that other nonsense. You couldn't drive down the road with a latte in one hand and your cell phone in the other because it really took both hands to stay in control. I really think modern cars have gotten too comfortable for our own good.

Good points. And look at the dashboards in todays cars. Talk about distracted driving just to adjust the interior temperature or change the radio station. I have 3 different vehicles between 2019 and 2023; two GM and one Jeep. Even to get the windshield wipers to swip a single pass is complicated when switching between vehicles.

Lots of little details that are incorrect on that old Jeep, but at over 60 years old, it's difficult to achieve perfection with anything (myself included). Even my 1980 CJ-5 wasn't perfect, but she was easily one of the best Jeeps I've ever owned and will forever regret replacing her with my '21 JL.

that’s a gorgeous CJ.
You should hold your head in shame for getting rid of it

Starting a long time ago. My first trip with a new Kenworth I went 300 miles getting high beam flashed and flipped off while stomping every inch of the floorboard in vain, scratching my head and searching for the dimmer switch. When I got to my destination a buddy came over reached up to the turn signal stalk, dimmed the lights, and had a good laugh…..

The very first Jeep I owned was a 1971 CJ5 with the Buick odd fire 225 V6 3sp and big hole case D18 single stick transfer case. Guy I bought it from had the front fenders bobbed. They were done so well it looked like it came from the factory that way. It was a great little Jeep but damn did it ride rough as hell. It was amazing how basic and simple everything was on those things back then. Wish I still had it.

One is Hi/Lo transfer case, the other is an early form of FAD... or FAC if you prefer.
Not exactly.

Both are transfer case shifters. One is 2wd/4wd, the other is hi/neutral/low.

There is no axle disconnect like the FAD on those old Jeeps.

Indeed, that's why I called it an FAC, or "Front Axle Connect"... because it connects the front axle to the rest of the drivetrain. I was just trying to use terms that the kids these days could relate to.
