I do it all the time in the summer. Especially when I lived in Dallas and I was in stop/go traffic, but it was dry enough there (compared to southeast Michigan and Houston) that I could manage without it so long as I had something blocking direct sunlight.

I use the 67 Designs rail for my phone mount and I find the AC useful to keep my phone cooled down on sunny days as well. When you're plugged in all day in direct sunlight it doesn't take much to overheat an iPhone.

Generally speaking, though, if I have the doors or half door uppers pulled out on the trail, the vents are closed to keep as much dust as possible from getting inside the system.

Yea Ive found with my mount on the a-pillar and plugged in a lot I have to occasionally point up the vent

Interesting question - we were driving around last week with the top off and my wife wanted to turn the A/C on and I found myself hard against it. The top's off - what's the point?

HOWEVER, one of my favorite things in the "Fall" (it's Texas, so yeah, "Fall" is in quotes) is to drive with the windows down and heater on. The mix of cold + hot is so nice.

yup, both heat and AC. Doesn't help much when moving but a blessing when you stop.

ACE Engineering makes the Lava/Frosty jacket. It is a pullover that has a sleeve that comes out of the chest that attaches to one of the vents and blows warm/cold air in to the jacket. Says it is for the JK but wonder if it would work with the JL/JLU as well.

This is ... amazing. Like, I want one, but I'm not entirely sure why.

I've done it at a long stop light when it was hotter than hell out.. I've also... on those cool mornings, ran heat just for a warm breeze.. and when it's been just cool enough to where it's not super comfortable when your moving, I've turned the heated seats on and it did a world of good.

Any potential issues with running your AC with the top down? Being in south FL with I've done it many times, but never for long periods of time because of concerns of excess moisture building the vents.

Yup. My wife did that yesterday to get some cool air on her face.

Yup, on a regular basis. SW FL has been unusually brutal the past several weeks and you’ll absolutely bake if naked with no cooling.

Nope. Here in Dallas, if the temp is >100 then I'm putting on doors and the top with the AC on. If I am running naked, turning on the AC doesn't really do much IMO unless at a stop light. Driving at highway speed, that cold air just disappears. I do have a plug in vented seat cushion however that blows cooler air on my backside and exits hot air through a fan on the front that sits below the seat cushion. It helps a bit but I always thought running the AC with no doors was just silly - what's the point and does it actually help? To each their own I suppose.

Hey, one thing comes to mind….. whatever the heck happened to the vent function that we had in Jeeps and other cars back in the day???? Been wanting to ask that forever but never really had the opportunity. Been missing that ‘’option’’.

You know, we use to put it on vent which would just open up the vents and allow airflow from outside that would of course vary with vehicle speed instead of needing to power something on. ?‍♂

From experience, I know better than to lower the top when it's too warm (which I concede is a subjective measurement). Said differently, the Jeep's superlative heating output is capable of doing more for me when it's cool/cold than I could ever expect from the yeoman-grade A/C when it's hot outside.

I'm more amenable to adding another layer of clothing, and turning up the heat, in order to keep the top back or lowered when the mercury starts to go south a bit.

I haven't in my JL, but have in my JK. It was so hot I had to.

It was about 110° that day.
