Naked + A/C...

Open Jeep + A/C

  • Yep, I do (have done) it.

  • No. I haven't (wouldn't) do it.

  • I haven't done it... but I'm not saying I wouldn't.

For those who run topless, doorless, safari style or some other open variation in the summer months... do you ever turn on your A/C on particularly hot days to cool things off?

Yep, I've done it. It gives you a nice cool little breeze.

Typically, I keep a couple of misting fans in the Jeep and that’s enough to keep the kids cool. But if it’s too hot, blast the AC.

Interesting. Thanks all for the votes/feedback. I turned on the A/C the other day briefly while my wife and I were waiting in line at the pharmacy drive-thru and it made me wonder how many other folks do that.

While I did it, it inherently seemed wrong somehow. Part of that "Close the door! What? Were you born in a barn?" mentality, I guess... :)

I have run the a/c with everything off/down but find it doesnt do too much just keeps your hands cool on the wheel if youre moving. However the heat for sure helps when the temps dip below 65 and youre moving.

YUP, mostly for the kids in the back though as they often have windows up.

yup, both heat and AC. Doesn't help much when moving but a blessing when you stop.

ACE Engineering makes the Lava/Frosty jacket. It is a pullover that has a sleeve that comes out of the chest that attaches to one of the vents and blows warm/cold air in to the jacket. Says it is for the JK but wonder if it would work with the JL/JLU as well.

I do it all the time in the summer. Especially when I lived in Dallas and I was in stop/go traffic, but it was dry enough there (compared to southeast Michigan and Houston) that I could manage without it so long as I had something blocking direct sunlight.

I use the 67 Designs rail for my phone mount and I find the AC useful to keep my phone cooled down on sunny days as well. When you're plugged in all day in direct sunlight it doesn't take much to overheat an iPhone.

Generally speaking, though, if I have the doors or half door uppers pulled out on the trail, the vents are closed to keep as much dust as possible from getting inside the system.

If we have the windows down, we do AC on to take the edge off at a stop light / sign. I used to be windows down, AC off but my wife convinced me to keep the AC on.
