I'm not sure what your mechanical skill level is. Generally speaking the steps are, remove tire and wheel assembly, remove brake caliper (do lot let caliper hang by brake hose), remove brake disc, remove ABS sensor from wheel bearing, remove wheel bearing. Remove axle shaft assembly, Remove old boot, install new boot (clamps can be tricky), Reinstall in reverse order. Getting the axle shaft assembly back in the splines properly can be a pain. Especially on the disconnect side.
I got dizzy 🥴

Hey WA Jeepers, if you do this job for me, I will buy beer for you and will change your oil five times and your transfer case fluid too. Deal

Just browsed Rock Auto to get a rough estimate. Around 30 bucks for the boot, no less than 700 for a CV axle assembly.

Yeah, Firestone says $1,200 for everything, $700 and some change for genuine Mopar axle

If i recall good you can leave the speed censor in and suspend like the break assembly.

On a jk, this is a 30 minutes job for me. Did that (remove the shafts ) a lot.

@jeepjunkis it driver or drinker side ?
If passenger make sure you are in 4wd if you have a fad. Also validate the hub assembly bolts are 13 point or not

It's not an incredibly hard job. But parts are expensive when you start talking about replacing an axle shaft. Especially CV, might check and see how expensive upgrading would be.

Can I drive like this for a few thousand miles?
Short answer is YES but then you can no longer just replace the boot you will need to replace the entire axle.
First of all take a deep breath, this is not the end of the world. Your boot ripped and your grease is leaking out. It will continue to leak out until all has come out that is able to. Then dust and dirt will slowly work it's way in and cause the CV joint to wear prematurely. This will take thousands of miles and it's not like one day you will drive down the road and your wheel will fall off.
It will eventually get to the point where it will start making noise due to the lack of grease and wear, again many many miles from now.

If you have only 25k miles on it, replacing the boot may be the best option since that CV joint has a lot of life left in it. I pulled my shafts out at 70k and was shocked out how tight the CVs were.

Go somewhere like Les Schwab. Not sure how much the work costs with a Wrangler, but it cost less than $300 for my old CrossTrek IIRC a few months ago to replace the CV boot (parts and labor). It'll be a lot pricier if you don’t fix it soon and it’s easy to screw up if you don’t have a clean environment to work in. Plus they provide a reasonable warranty for the parts/work.

One shop says that the labor is so high to replace the boot that it's better to just replace the axle.

By further damage you mean damage to the axle?
No to the part. This is a joint abd what sling out is grease, once the grease is gone it will be metal on metal. Worse that will happen is you need to replace the shafts for that side. Maybe you want to go u joint if you want to no longer riping

You mean this boot thingy is something new on the Wrangler, and I should go back to old school?
