Is this seam thingy or the location that warranty doesn't cover?

Yeah, that's from something external, not a part defect. Does suck, but don't put it off long. Once all the grease has been slung out, and water can get in, it will damage things. How quickly that happens is up for anyone to guess. But consider that this joint spins with every rotation of the tire.

Roger, will fix it ASAP. But even a 1000 miles is enough to damage things? I need to drive, its my only vehicle ☹

The grease lubricates the bearings, it doesn't take too long with no grease for metal on metal wear and spalling to begin. You can try to put fresh clean grease back in the hole, and seal it up. But results may vary. Usually just end up a mess.

Just remember that it's going to keep flinging it out until the hole is sealed, or the boot is replaced. Centrifugal force and all that jazz.

Hey, is this a job that Firestone could do?

Not sure. I know they do some general maintenance, and I believe they would do it for IFS, but not sure if they would do the boot on a Jeep solid axle. It requires removing the wheel bearing first, then pulling the axle out, and repairing it before putting it back together. Give them a call and see what they say.

Will do. Their rates are lower that's why I asked. Will report!

To me, that looks more like something stabbed it, like a branch or something. Others can chime in here though.
Ditto.

Hey, if I do a lot of research and ask here, can I do it myself? I will go to the self serve garage and the owner walks around in the shop if someone needs help.

They said they don't do boot only, they will do the whole axle ☹ But I asked them for an estimate, lets see how bad it looks.

I'm not sure what your mechanical skill level is. Generally speaking the steps are, remove tire and wheel assembly, remove brake caliper (do lot let caliper hang by brake hose), remove brake disc, remove ABS sensor from wheel bearing, remove wheel bearing. Remove axle shaft assembly, Remove old boot, install new boot (clamps can be tricky), Reinstall in reverse order. Getting the axle shaft assembly back in the splines properly can be a pain. Especially on the disconnect side.

Whole axle is going to be expensive.
