I missed that part about the lockers, but yeah, they are referred to as "low-side-finders" as they reduce lateral stability (cause a tire to turn under power when you want it to remain more static).

Mud is just like snow or ice - you got to keep the wheels turning. Stay in a higher gear, keep the wheels from locking up. 2WD sometimes works better going downhill. No lockers. Let her roll, and just go with it.

Not sure you really did anything "wrong" under the circumstance. Generally when you are in a really dry area it has a thick layer of dust and loose dirt on the ground that quickly becomes like Vaseline when it rains. My biggest suggestion would be to NOT have the front and rear lockers engaged as it reduced steering control and also forces all 4 wheels to brake the same since they are all locked together. 4 low and the lowest trans gear, and try to keep off the brakes and let the tires roll as much as possible. Locked up tires will simply slide and give absolutely no directional control. It's against normal instinct, but giving it a slight bit of gas can actually let the front tires pull you straight and turn a little.....key is very slight inputs to both gas and turning.
Mud tires versus AT's would probably help some, but in this situation even if you had MT's you probably still wouldn't have very good control of the vehicle.

I love this forum. Thanks again all. I didn’t even know I had a button my dashboard to control my speed off-road….but I just looked and I do. Two years and I never noticed it. I’ve also been schooled on lockers now which is great to know before I go see snow in the Jeep. I had always been taught that lockers were to be used only when you were in trouble. What they probably meant to teach me was when you’re in trouble going uphill over an obstacle. I only turned them on because I was having so much trouble going downhill.

Does the Sahara have Select Speed Control?
I remember reading a thread on that. From what I read, Its based on the year and trim. 2020 til present Speed Select was standard in the Sport. Most other trims had the Hill Decent which only worked on descending. It had something to do with the Transmission you selected. Now all vehicles get the Speed Select which works uphill/ downhill and on flat ground.

I have a 20 sport. It comes with hill descent which works great (at least in snow). Just FYI, it only works in 4 lo.

Air WAY down, like 10 psi or less. It is the only way to get any traction when it's sloppy. Works for deep snow too. The KO2's suck in mud, but low enough psi can get them to be marginal. Obviously you'll need to air back up before you drive on the street so bring a compressor. No you won't lose a bead airing down that low in soft conditions even without beadlocks. In rocks aired down that low, burping air and subsequent losing a bead is a real possibility. In mud or snow, assuming you aren't cornering hard at speed, I've never lost a bead even going as low as 8 psi on non beadlocks. If you plan to wheel on mud regularly, a real mud terrain will be the biggest improvement.

I assume that that only comes with (and would only work with) the automatic transmission. My 2022 Willys Sport, with the manual transmission, has neither hill descent nor "Speed Select", whatever that is.

EDIT: Could this be another difference between the 2-door and the 4-door models? I have a 2-door.

I have 2021 Willys sport and it has select speed. In my manual it does list both hill decent and select speed. They are different. Going off memory at present but I believe even the button on the dashboard is different. Hill decent shows the jeep going down hill. Select speed shows the jeep flat on lever ground.

Which models get what not sure.

It's actually called per jeep for whatever reason"select speed " it's on the far right side of the center of your dash.

I will see if I have a pic.

Nope, there is definitely nothing like that in mine!
Nor was I expecting there to be.

You have the Willys Sport, and not the straight Willys?
That would be odd if they varied like that from one model year to the next. But nothing in anything that I have read about the 2022 Willys Sport, prior to taking delivery of it or since, suggested that "Hill Descent" was a part of the Willys Sport package. And I am familiar with what the button for it looks like, but I definitely do not have it.

Yes I have the Willys sport/ base jeep, no power options nothing and I have select speed. That is very weird that my 2021 has it and your 2022 does not. And I ordered mine and did not actually order select speed specific. Didn't know you could. Thought all came with it, even the sport or base jeep.

Maybe someone will shed some light as to the why.

I have a '21 JLUR. The official name in the manual is "Selec-Speed Control" (no "t" at the end of selec). I have the button but have never tried it. I suppose if I read the manual I would have seen it. ;)
This sounds like the near perfect tool for those stupid TikTok videos where the driver jumps out of a slow moving car and dances alongside as it keeps moving. Fortunately Jeep added a requirement that the drivers door be closed for this feature to work.

Sorry, I edited my earlier post to this same effect, but could my Jeep lacking both of those have anything to do with either:
1) mine has a manual transmission, and/or
2) mine is a 2-door vs. a 4-door?

But again, in everything that I had read before and after ordering my Jeep, there was never any mention or suggestion that it would have either "Hill Descent" or "Selec Speed". I have been assuming that those are both only found in higher trim levels (such as Sahara or Rubicon).

Funny, but no. Read all the ways it will disengage. Like opening the door or removing your seat belt it will disengage. Lol.
