What's good fam!

I've had a weird issue come up, the middle armrest up front has started to "melt"

I'll admit it's exactly where I rest my arm/elbow while driving but I'm a pretty normal dude that just uses a bar of soap to shower. No lotions or anything else so I'm not sure what's causing this issue.

Attached is a photo. If you see the "wrinkles," those showed up first about 3-4 weeks ago. They feel like loose skin. Now today I noticed the spot to the bottom left. It's "gooey" like its actively melting or something.

Anyone have this issue??

Mine is close. You wore through the outer layer of whatever this material is that passes for leather these days. That’s the adhesive that backs it.

Suntan Lotion??

G.
Nope. No lotions. No creams. Nothing. No change in shower soap. No particular sweating or anything on my elbows.

Elbows are pretty dry, I think it’s mostly just friction wearing the material out. At least it’s not as pricey as one from a Ram truck, you can just swap the lid out every 5 years or so to keep it looking right. Or get a cover but those are tacky IMO.

Does your vehicle sit out in the sun a lot? I think that can contribute to the softening and thus easier wear on the armrest from your elbow

That is certainly what did mine in this summer. It got soft.

Some folks sweat is corrosive, may be the case here.

I’m pretty sure the “leather” arm rests aren’t leather. Regardless, just put a neoprene cover on it, feels so much better on a hot, topless sunny day.

I installed a neoprene armrest cover well before I decided to purchase seat covers made of the same fabric. I didn't like the shiny vinyl on the armrest being in stark contrast to the appearance of the cloth seats. The additional padding provided by the cover was a nice bonus.

Plus it's easy to pull off and wash it when it gets dirty

You can get the leather arm rest with white stitching for 50 dollars brand new But if you want the same arm rest with red stitching, it is well over 200. Why?? I don't know.
