Thats 100% not normal. You might be beyond warranty to have that replaced for free. I’d look for a replacement from wrecked JL or just purchase new.

Benny at @AllMoparParts.com can hook you up.

Unfortunately when it started my warranty was well up. It's just gotten worse and worse though. Other side seems to be fine

Leatherseats.com sells replacement armrest covers, I changed out the ones on the Boss Lady’s Jeep for leather, it’s not too bad of a job.

Do you happen to have something like a
Gem hanging in the rear view mirror? I’ve seen people melt seats in the past with things reflecting light off a gem or disco ball type of deal hanging on the mirror. Has the same effect as a magnify glass

And some types of air fresheners. Although I think they need to actually be touching the leather, and a door seems like an odd place for an air freshener

I’ve heard the tree air fresheners dehydrate the plastics on the steering column. People used to love hanging them on the turn signal arm

Mine did the same thing. Right where my elbow would rest. I got a cover off Amazon, but can still see where it is. Going to try the site mentioned by @Gregj

How does your steering wheel look? Mine is deteriorating there as well.

Sunblock, bug spray, lotion, and hand sanitizer are all good "guesses." I realized I was destroying a steering wheel on a previous vehicle because of hand sanitizer 🤦‍♀️ (Pre-2020)
