I will soon be moving to 285/75/17s on my JLR as the stock KO2s are almost gone. I don't want to waste any money on a lift but I'm willing to invest in a good set of tires. Right now, I've narrowed it down to the Nitto trail Grappler M/T or Ridge Grappler A/T and I'm just not sure how differently they perform on/off road. My rig is primarily a daily driver with weekend easy-moderate wheeling which usually involves deep mud (KO2s are the WORST in mud). Ideally my new set should behave on the road, not be extremely loud (I can manage a little noise), and have good traction in the mud- Thoughts?

Do you know how long they will last?
Not personally but there are plenty of reviews out there. I assume most people wouldn't run past 40k on a mud terrain anyway as you would eventually not have useful tread depth, plus noise increases.

I went with the Michelin A/T on my initial build. Once they wear out, I think I will go for an M/T but if I'm being honest that's mostly for the look as opposed to the performance. They just look "right" on a Jeep.

Since you do mud you might be someone who actually should entertain getting an M/T. I just want them for looks :CWL:
I hear the Yokohama Geolander M/T G003 and the Toyo Open Country are also fairly quiet.
From what I read the General, Toyo, and Yokohama seem to be most liveable on-road.

Running Mickey Thompson Baha Boss M/Ts here. Yes, noticeable louder but I keep them rotated and haven't experienced an increase in noise.

Immediately after installation they definitely felt and drove different than the factory K02s. After about a month of driving they became predictable. I'm very happy with them, but I'm sure they aren't for everyone.

I just went through this.
I ended up with 315/70R17 KO2 in C load range.
I wanted a MT, but could nit justify them with the ammount of road vs off road that I actually get to drive. The KO2s will be quieter, lighter and longer lasting.
MTs doo look better.
Getting them mounted Saturday.

You should probably at least consider a hybrid at/mt tire since you do mostly street, but your offroad times are in mud. Something like the newest gen Mickey Thompson Lengend MTZ (new generation) might be good for you. Also, from what I've read, the newest generation of Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT tires are very aggressive for ATs. I'm probably going with the mtz. While I'd like to go full mud tire, I do spend a majority of my time on the streets as it's my daily driver. I want a little more life out of the tire and need road manners. Plus I'm getting old and my days of enjoying the hum of super swampers are over. LOL

I'm a huge fan of Mickey Thompson tires from way back. I have the Baja Boss a/t's and they're fantastic. No reason to think the m/t version would be a lesser tire...

So, there are people who buy tires based on how they look, with no regard to performance, noise, wear, or handling? Yikes!
The Mickey Thompson Boss A/T get my vote.

To answer your first post, I would pick the Ridge Grapplers. I ran them on my F150 and they worked well for me, on-road and in the mud. I am not sure how much wheelbase and weight would affect the way they perform (a lot of reviews complained about slipping in the rain and I never had issues). But, of the two, I think that would be better suited for your use.
