So I'm pretty sure I either left this with a random tire shop months ago when I was getting a tire patched, or it fell out of my ragged tool bag somewhere along the way, but either way it's now missing. I went to do a rotation and inspect my very worn brakes (doing them next week) and realized I can't get the wheels off. Has anyone been in this situation with the Mopar wheel lock kit specifically? Autozone was lost when I showed them a picture of the lug.

Are the keys unique if I buy another set? Anyone in the SoCal area have a key I could try?

I have two sets and the key is not the same. The package has a code number on them, idk if you can order a new key with that code.

A tire shop can get them off.

My son recently learned this lesson the hard way. He bought a used Dodge Dart, hit a pot-hole and got a flat. Only then did he realize that he had locking lug nuts. No key. No documentation to get the proper key. The tire shop ultimately charged (gouged) him $600 on top of the new tire to get all the locking nuts off and replace with standard...

WOW! They can’t be that hard to get off. It looks like they have a hardened ring around them so you can’t just hammer a socket on them but it seems you could drill them and hammer something into the hole to remove it.

I think Discount Tire would have the tools to pull it off and then sell you another lock set.

That's what I would have thought. The shop said they didn't have the key to unlock that particular lug. I'm not sure if the lug nuts were some obscure after-market thing or the shop just wasn't that well equipped. Either way, the moral of the story is if you have locking lug nuts make sure you know the make/model or have a key on hand.

I used a Dremel tool with a cutting disk to cut a slot in the ring. Pried it off with a screwdriver, and then hammered a socket on then took it off that way. Of course I had the do that 5 times.

that is insane. You can buy a single socket that will remove locking nuts for as $10 or a whole set of different sizes for $40-$100.When I had my JK I left my key on my bumper after I did a tire rotation and it was lost. I realized it a week later when I went to change brake pads. Ran to AutoZone and bought the socket and locking nuts came right off

Go to the dealer and talk to the parts counter. They have a plastic case with a bunch of different lug nut “keys” in it. Normally it would be easy and you would have the bag that the original lock key was in and you would give them the number and they would sell you a new key for a few bucks. But if you don’t then the parts person can walk outside with you and test the keys till he finds the one that fits then sell you that one. It’s not a big deal.
