Strange, could this be why the plate has to be installed in the same position it was removed from? @chevymitchell any insight on this?
Nah. That plate can really be installed in any position. However, Dana prefers it to go back into the same position because of standard mechanical wear.

Edit: The plate I'm referring to above is the inside plate that rotates. The plate the procedure is referring to is the plate containing the magnet. They're actually a little hard to bend, but if someone is careless enough, they could do it, I suppose. If one gets bent, then the magnet could ride around in a circle while going in and out of the sensor like one of those rides at the fair.

These sensors needing to be installed is likely just different calibrations of the same sensor. FCA can track which part number axle assembly went into which VIN, but the sub-assembly parts for the Dana axle is not something they're going to track. It's a mix match of parts over the last 4 years and this is their way of getting the axle fixed without 5 trips to dealership for the customer. Still better than replacing the housing or the entire assembly. They should've just potted the sensors to begin with. I haven't heard of a potted sensor failing yet. Oh well. At least they're making an attempt to save some money for themselves and some time for the Jeeper.

Hi are the new sensors redesigned or look the same?

So, kind of an update on this. I ended up slightly nicking a capacitor when I potted mine. It still works like OEM but every so often I would get a flashing light. So I ordered a new sensor. Almost $500 Canadian later it came today.

Well, I don't know if it's a screw up but they sent 5 in the box. Confirmed with parts guy and all is correct. I'll replace my bad one and keep a spare. So I'll have 3 spare sensors.

I'll do $200 US shipped US or Canada for each sensor if anyone is interested. PM. I'm Canadian so I can only use PayPal and for both our protection, please choose Business sale and I'll swallow the 2% fee. Canadians, we can do etransfer or PayPal.

Hmmm. I potted my sensors eons ago and have had no issues. Over the past few weeks, however, I’ve had the “service axel locker” idiot light come on just momentarily a few times. It seems happen when turning at slow speed. Once I was at a stop sign and creeping out for a right turn, and today it happened when parallel parking. It only stays on for a second or two, and I only caught it because of the chime.

Does this sound like a sensor, or maybe loose/faulty harness?

I haven’t had a chance to crawl under to inspect the harness, nor have I tested lockers, yet.

That sounds like a loose connector to me.

Most likely a wheel speed sensor, but could be a loose connector on the locker sensor too as mentioned.

Oh, interesting. I wouldn’t have considered wheel speed sensor. I will crawl under and check the connector, today.

Thanks, guys.

Somebody on here had a problem with one that was just really dirty. Maybe take a water hose after each wheel.

Yes that’s a good point. To clean the sensors you have to remove the wheels / brake rotors and pull the sensor out of the hub assy and flush it out with dirt. I was amazed how mush dirt was in mine when I replaced my ball joints.

Yeah they're "Hall Effect" sensors that basically count how often a magnet moves past them . . . so I imagine any tiny iron particles in the soil just get stuck on the magnet over time and help trap even more dirt.

Took the opportunity to pot my sensors, install motobilt diff covers and rancho skids, and swap to clean fluid on my newish JL. Took it out for a spin and activated my lockers easy enough. Noticed unlocking them took awhile (30+ seconds) and it seemed like I needed to move forward slowly to get them unlocked. Normal?

Unlocking can take a bit or require rotation to finalize the process.

Totally normal.

I’ve had similar slow to unlock lockers. Sometimes it unlocks right away, sometimes not. Usually a little rolling unlocks it. I’ve not potted my sensors.
Pretty much normal tho since new.
