FWIW, I ran the bypass harness for awhile and vibration eventually broke one of the wires going to the little box. I decided I wanted to pot the sensors for peace of mind.

You might get lucky by draining the oil and potting your sensors. I did. Don't wait.
Wick, it’s still under the powertrain warranty, by one year/20K miles. I have a dreaded appointment with a dealership on Monday. I’m prepping for the inevitable battle.🤣

I understand, but the new sensors will fail too. I wouldn't waste my time at the dealer, just pot what you got.

I just had this issue pop up on my 2019 while making a very long drive. I’m going to just replace the sensor but am wondering if this is an easy task I can do myself or should I take it somewhere to have it done? I know basic mechanics but that’s about it. I have about 106,000 miles on her if that matters.

It’s hard to answer for someone else. I would say you only need average ability, and some patience while potting the sensors. If you haven’t already seen it, @chevymitchell , gives an excellent explanation of what it entails here. https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/locker-position-sensor-potting-dana-44.59581/

Cheaper to get a locker bypass harness and plug it in. Got mine for $25.00

Link for said harness? I potted both of my sensors at 4,000 miles, but now the rear warning light is flashing. I’ve heard that new sensors are available already potted. no idea where to find those either

The item I bought is now sold by another vendor.

My year Jeep does not match the keyed notch on the plug. Though the pin out to activate locker is identical to all JL years. I notched out a larger window, to double its width on one end, and remove the key on the other end. I used a hobby knife with a long and pointy tip to carve out the key, so the connector wall is flush.

Took about 10 minutes time to do the mods to the bypass harness. installing 15 minutes. be sure to zip-tie the harness snuggly, so that the module and conectors do not move from vibration, and are away from rubbing. I installed mine to the upper part of the axle tube.

Works great and quick at lockup.
