Lanolin from sheep’s wool is the active ingredient in many of the rust preventative products I’ve read about. By itself it is a very thick consistency and I’m sure some type of chemical solvent or alcohol is used to thin it out.

I haven't added anything to my 19 JLU. The only thing I do which is done to both of our vehicles is after the roads are brined I take both vehicles to a local self wash that has hot water. The Jeep I spray even inside the frame rails. Wifes suv can't get in the frame rails but gets a good spray down. I do this as well after every wheeling trip. So far in 5 years minimal rust outside of what I have from wheeling. It probably helps I live in NJ so we don't see as much snow as say Ohio, NY, or Northwestern PA.

So anyway it turns out its not so easy to remove unless you like harsh chemicals all over the place where rubber exists, and so what you need is magic in the form of dry-ice coldness that freezes the crap off so it flakes off and......well magic! Now lets be clear... I'm not going to pretend i know what im talking about here. All I know is that the guy got rid of it then covered it with wax WHICH I DID RESEARCH BEFOREHAND THANKS FOR ASKING. GEEZ.

It sounds like you used dry ice to do it? For somebody in the same boat as you, can you explain what you did? I know you can dry ice sandblast, but my guess is you did something different.

Nope, you were right. The bottom was dry ice blasted. I should have been more clear - theres a single company in my city that does it and I had to wait about a month just to get in. He says he has to deal with this all the time and his front waiting room is basically a museum of rusted out car frame pieces with rubber on the other side.

Whole process to remove it then apply the wax took 2 days. Paid 200 to put on the rubber, 150 in beer to drown out the regret after realizing my mistake, and around 1500 for the removal/wax application. Eating mac and cheese for the next while but it was worth it. Not worried at all anymore about rusting out the bottom and the wax is said to last about 10 - 15 years.

I have been happy with Wool Wax. Used Fluid Film the first 2 years and last year switched to Wool Wax. Wool Wax stays on. Fluid Flim washed off pretty fast. 6 years old and 85,000mi in Michigan and no rust..

yeah it seems like wax is the way to go over anything oil based isnt it

I had my jeep treated by Rustless rides in Ohio applied a undercoating made by NHOU sprayed into the frame rails, the inner fenders he even took the brake lights out and sprayed the inside of the rear panels. I watched the whole process very impressive.

We’ve been using Krown on all our Vehicles since year 2000.. it’s done it job.

Our vehicles are undercoated every fall with a Biodegradable product called Krown. It prevents rust and corrosion and seals joints.
This type of product is a must if you live where they use salt or other chemicals on the winter roads.

What these guys said. I use Krown on all my vehicles and they are all rust free. I had a Krown dealer do the first application and then I bought all the equipment and I spray them myself every year. For you guys who use fluid film you will love Krown , similar but better. You can spray brake and electrical components. Keeps connections clean and future brake jobs a breeze

Man that is a clean underside of a Jeep .... when I put the undercloak on, I took one bolt out of the trans skid and it sprung down like 3"

My experience was similar. I just added the Artec system to my Jeep and had to beat the OEM skids with a hammer or use a pry bar to even regain access to some of the bolts. And we can't forget about the file I had to use to turn the more exposed bolts back into hexagons!

Luckily I was less than 2 years into ownership before I put it on and only had one real bad bolt lol. But yea I was surprised at how bent out of shape that trans skid was. Been hella nasty here in NC lately so havent gotten out to test the undercloak yet which makes me sad

Last jeep spend 15 years in the rust belt nothing special done to it except at 5 years I sanded and bed lined my skid plate, ended up replacing it at years 14 as it was rotten out.

All in all other than the stuff that was induced by me and the usual hinges issue, the body remain rust free.
Surface rust on frame and component is no big deal for structural integrity, skid plate you can replace. The body itself, if not aluminum is made from galvanize steel.

Inject Fluid film into any hole you can find, I use a 3' piece of fuel line to do it. Keep good paint on the outside of everything, no rust issues. Salt away after any salt exposure.
