So far it looks like this idea will work. I removed the Rigid bezel from the light which should be fine if I machine a groove into the reflector replacement and use it as the new bezel. I'll start messing with it this weekend, I may drive up to to the 3D guys and get them to digitize the OEM reflector for me.

Any thoughts to mounting the rigids inside the reflectors with a nice clean hole cut out for the light to poke into?

I had intended to use Rigid lights like @Firecracker Rubi , but I really like the placement @Rumblefish has with the strip lights.

I want lighting, but I don't want to be bristling with big lights. Good ideas guys.
I didn't take any pics of installation, it was kind of a PITA, think really small hardware and needle nose pliers.

Although its still a bit light out, you can see the difference with and without brakes on. I think it will work. Before installing these Denali Electronics Flush Mount DRL, the whole screen would wash out with the LED tail/Brake lights.

@Turfman

Personally, a solution that used the two reflectors on the JL rear bumper would be the ultimate way to go! Yup, not available as of yet.

I will not do a b/u light mod that has me drilling holes/ damaging anywhere else on the bumper.

I'm sure in the near future an LED manufacturer will indeed have a lite that fits perfectly in the reflector(s) area. I'm waiting for such..

In the interim, I wired up a pair of Rigids under the bumper. Doing so required no modification of the bumper, no drilling into the bumper, etc. and was easy to do.

I did not go with b/u lights that straddle the trailer hitch, as the lights I have seen limit / block access to the 4 and 7 pin box on the JL.

I can attest to the fact (pictures kinda show it) that the after market b/u lights dramatically and I mean dramatically change what you see in the rear view camera at night when you are backing up and riding or applying the brakes.

With the stock JL set-up you can see little on the camera screen and it is a reddish hue...where as with the LED after market lights, the view on the monitor when you are backing up is crisper, clearer and brighter and no red hue. Major difference..

Well, yesterday I was doing a bit of research and found out that the Denali Flush mount LEDs are dual intensity. The lights are 3 wire (red, black, white). In my pics you see the 50% connection, I changed the wiring to use the 100% wire, WOW what a difference. I will try to get some pics of them this weekend.

Any updates on this thread?

Any word on anyone working on an LED that fits into the stock rear reflectors?

I'd like to just wire into one of the AUX buttons and only use when needed.

Another option are hinge mounted lights. The brackets are from ZRoads and you can put two 6" light bars up above the rear window, they also make a version that holds one single long light bar. They already have these out for the JL.

Had these on my JK wired up to a switch and absolutely loved them, I have the new brackets to move my light bars to my JL, just haven't had a chance yet. This is how it looked on my JK.

no, they suck.

a couple small led flat lights in the factory steel bumper where the reflectors are at
makes the most sense. wire them into the backup light wire, and then the camera
can see something before you hit it.

then you can hit it properly. i hate doing something half assed.
I'm planning on using https://www.quadratec.com/products/97109_10XX_PG.htm Just ordered them as will usethe spot for front and flood for the rear and mount on steel bumper under the tire and above the hitch. I ordered the combo two floods and two spots and my buddy has a JL Rubi like me... Will wire the front and back to one of the AUX switches we have as only need a brighter then normal light some times.... Should help the backup camera having more lums.

This has been very helpful as my old Jeep had the worst backup lights and to hear the new JL with LED is not as good, plus the LED guy stating their LED bulb replacement is not the anwers.

FWIW, I tried LEDs in the OEM rear harness, and they don't work (at all). Getting my $$$ back. I'm going to just run Sylvania Ultra whites instead. Never heard of the LEDs not working in the rear back-up lights, but they don't. Maybe with the Tazer JL they would...
