This is the problem. Every dealer in the country is going to tell you that is just how the pentastar sounds and that nothing is wrong. So, everyone is then going to wait until they get the SEL codes, which, as far as I know, is too late. By the time the codes pop up, your engine is full of metal shavings and likely needs to be completely replaced.
That's 100% speculation and trolling.

@cosmokenney Not sure if you saw my Thread in which I did all the work to find I was actually had normal wear for my high milage:

It’s that time…127,000 mile 3.6L Penstar work

and the new one I started:

3.6L Intake Lifter, Intake Rocker & Right Intake Cam Shaft Discussion…

The results are why I am so confused now and the reason for my comment above.

Sorry, I should have made it more clear. I used your reply as an example of what owners can expect from dealerships -- in general. Despite what Ron Texas says my dealership experience, and that of many people on, this forum has been that Jeep dealers deny warranty and TSB work.

Sorry that you had a bad experience.

Perhaps, but every un-truth and half-truth is rooted in some level of reality. Based on the majority of people's experience with Stellantis and their poor customer service, Cosmo's "trolling" isn't necessarily false and is probably a more accurate characterization of what happens at a typical dealership. I sincerely hope your experience has been the opposite, but this seems to be the norm for most of us. Sadly, my JL will be the last Stellantis product I'll ever buy.

I’m sure this question has been asked so many times. If folks hate this engine so much why get another Jeep with the same engine? I’ve no problems with either of my 3.6s first one went for 150k no issues got traded in because I needed a commuter. My 25 has ~4700 on it now. If you hate the 3.6 so much why not get the 392? Or something that doesn’t have this motor? Or LS swap it? Why put yourself through it again and again and again?
Who else would wave at me but for the jeep?

Because the 392 is much more expensive and an LS swap is even more expensive. The latter option is almost laughable...sure...go buy a new JL with a 3.6L and then dump it for a more expensive LS? The vast majority of automotive consumers would never entertain that idea because it just doesn't make good financial sense. Buyers also continue to invest in the 3.6L because it has been a proven engine across multiple vehicles for years and want to believe that their previous 3.6L issues are just anomalies. Statistically they are correct, and your good experience with the engine supports it.

I doubt that it's a majority. Those with problems self select to post here. If things were as bad as some around here claim, Setellantis would have closed up shop in the US by now. I had two warranty repairs and my only complaint is they took too much time to get the work done.

My view is this thread is more FUD than reality. It is causing many to needlessly worry and is damaging the brand. I'm not seeing this kind of discussion anywhere else. Sure, the cam thing should not be happening at all, but .5% is a reasonable estimate and should not be cause for worry. Remember, one member here said a large Jeep dealer had only 10 cases. There's too much exaggeration and too much testosterone running here. I'm seriously considering not coming back to this forum. (Thunderous applause).

AND OUT OF THAT 0.5% how many are self inflicted. How many refuse to admit they F’d up and want warranty coverage.
I’ve personally seen owners swamp their vehicles in muddy water, then clean it up, flush some fresh oil through it and then take/tow it to the dealer crying about the cam problem, which seems to be one of the first things to go when muddy water or excess dirt is ingested..
I’ve been running a Jeep club in our area for 15 years and know the dealership really well here. This really is not even close to the a problem that this board tries to make it out to be. Are there bad motors out there, certainly, not every one is perfect. But I’ll all also throw in that the shop that does the warranty work can be more of a problem then the engine itself.
How many people here actually stop and check their oil regularly? How many wait til the EVIC tells you it’s time to change the oil?

I managed to go 20+ years before I purchased another jeep. Swore I wouldn't do it again for years... 2018 JL with a toasted cam in my garage at the moment. Parts are being "expedited" we will see what that means.

Why do you think there is a nationwide backorder on the cams? my Jl is sitting right now waiting on a intake cam. I have babied the crap out of this vehicle. 40K miles in 7 years. Oil changes every 5K is just the start of the maintenance i have put into this money pit.

I just bought a 2025 with the 2.0 three weeks ago tomorrow. I can definitely say it is MUCH faster than my 2021 3.6l 6MT. I've been taking it pretty easy, but I don't have to think twice if I want to pass someone. With my 2021 I had to make sure I had a LOT of room to pass. So much that I rarely ever passed anyone at all.

Thus far my only complaint about the 2.0 is it is super loud when you first start it. But it quiets down within 45-60 secs.
is performance in a jeep more important than reliability? not just the daily noise you deal with but the fact that youre running a 4 cyl engine in a vehicle that needs at least a 6 but have to "hack it" with a turbo to get it to do what it does?

seems to me over time a 4 cyl engine simply cant keep up
