You guys using the Jscan app, do you unplug or leave the little ''OBD2 device'' connected at all times ???

I had it on constantly and removed it lately, and now wondering if I should have left it plugged-in,

Thanks.
Not all goodies that you plug into the JL's, OBDll port are you wise/prudent to leave plugged in 24/7, 365 ... when not in use.

Reason being is some goodies will draw/use 12v power when the JL is turned off... also, some goodies may cause UCONNECT to wake up ... wake up repeatedly when the JL is off ... and those UConnect wake up will draw 12v and drain batteries.

So, best bet is not to leave goodies plugged into the OBDll port unless in use or unless the goodie has been proven to not do as mentioned above.

Example of a device that can be left plugged into the JL's OBD2 port is the Original Tazer JL.

I have the MX+ Bluetooth ODBII adapter, and it's only plugged in if I am actually using it. It draws power when it's connected and just no reason to leave it there.

I do leave my ECRI SGW bypass plugged in all the time, as that's the only way to get the ORP Gauges to work.

If I ever have to take it to dealer I'll unplug the ECRI and plug back into the SGW.

So....I have $125 in Amazon credit and figuring this is likely the best use of that, so I can finally inform my Sahara that it's now turning 33s instead of 32s, but also for some of the additional features JScan offers.

Just to be sure that I have this all right (apologies for the redundancy, I have read this and about a dozen other threads but want to confirm before purchase)
  1. Jscan itself is an app for my phone/laptop, not hardware
  2. I need an ODBII adapter. JScan presently recommends the vLinker or the ODBLink. ODBLink is pending a firmware update, but once that's done, the two are functionally comparable, correct? Is there any reason, then, to justify the ~2x price on the ODBLink?
  3. I need a Security Gateway Bypass. While Jscan recommends the Chrysler Y-cable, @Rhinebeck01 (and others) recommend instead the ECRI wireless one for ... reasons?
  4. Also recommended is the zAutomotive extension cable. However, this is less of a "requirement" and more of a "nice-to-have" to make it easier to install/uninstall the hardware for dealership visits, etc, correct?
So.....assuming the extension cable is optional, I would unplug the factory security gateway cable, and instead install the ECRI there. Then I would separately plug the vLinker into my ODBII port, which provides it power for the BT connection to my phone/laptop, and from there I would use JScan to do its thing. I should also have the vLinker app installed to be able to update the firmware periodically. HOW DOES THE ECRI and VLINKER CONNECT or do they need to? Would I do that from within the Jscan (or Vlinker?) app?

In-use, I would do all of this, pop open JScan, adjust my settings, it does its thing, and then I can remove everything, if I wanted (for security/power drain concerns). Because Jscan is a "change this setting and leave it changed" type tool, as opposed to the Tazer, which is that, PLUS "oh and also keep an eye out for this setting and change it back every time I start my Jeep or you notice it changed" live-updates/monitoring tool. Correct?

I've left my OBDlink MX+ adapter plugged in to both my 4xe's never had an issue with the battery running down ever. The vehicle do go to sleep without any issue.

@rcadden

I never saw a post saying what you went with, hardware wise. ?? I saw a post today saying you were using JSCAN.

JSCAN is the way to go for sure.. unless you need all that is offered by a Tazer JL.

Went with basically what we discussed - vLinker, ECRI, and I have an SGW extension on order.
