JScan question

My 36month/36,000 mile warranty expired last week. First thing I did was pull fuse 42 and disconnected the AUX battery negative and taped it off.

I have JScan and a Veepeak BLE+ OBDC reader that I bought last year. I used it successfully to change my tire size in the computer when I upgraded my tires. I also bought the security bypass plug/harness. When I did the tire change I also shut off the ESS settings...I thought. It kept working.

Now that the warranty is off I want to shut the ESS system down without having to push the button on the dash every time I start the JL. I just checked and the settings on JScan show it as disabled. (Photos below) Am I missing another place somewhere in the settings that I have to change? As it's set right now it shows it disabled but it still shuts down unless I push the button.

Stupid question, I just noticed the green GO button on the bottom of the screen - do I have to hit that to make the change take effect? It's reading deactivated when I start up JScan. Or, do I have to leave the security bypass plug/harness connected all the time for that feature to work?

Not sure, but from the text in that setting it looks like you just disabled the Start/Stop menu from showing up in the cluster and not disabling it in your tune. I'm not that familiar with jscan though. I've just used it to clear codes

The bypass plug is not going to affect ESS. You'll need a Tazer or another standalone device that will keep it off. Is it fuse 42 that is supposed to disable it? I saw a thread but don't remember which one. If you have a 3.6 I have a Pulsar tuner that will give you more power and keep it disabled. Pm me.

I strongly discourage you from using JSCAN to deal with ESS..

I am pro JSCAN but again, discourage using it for ESS.

JSCAN's way of dealing with ESS is very lame and is not a way to go in my opinion. You end up with always looking at an Evic warning, remote start usually won't work, and more..

You do the setting with JCAN and that is it. No need to leave the security gateway bypass in place.

Yes, on the green GO!

I encourage you to buy a @SmartStopStart.com SmartStopStart unit ($99) if you want an adjunct to in essence do the ESS button push for you. Many here use a SSS unit.

Please do not buy a knock off of the SmartStopStart unit on Amazon as they are known to hiccup on occasion, etc..

Also... even though you did the Aux bypass, you will see that ESS does still work.

If you look carefully on JSCAN. It will tell you that you also need to remove the hood switch to deactivate ESS. I believe it is the switch closest to the driver side of vehicle. This will also eliminate remote start.

Not sure if you're interested in a tuner, but I have a SuperChips TD3. There's an option to just have ESS default to off at startup. It still works if I want it to, it's just defaulting to off when I start the jeep. As if I hit the button myself after starting it. That's been working great for me. Pretty sure their cheaper devices or some of the diablo sport devices do it to. They don't require to device to remain plugged in or attached to the vehicle. It does require you have your pcm unlocked and a gateway bypass for flashing. I've been running mine since 2020 without issue.

LOL, not trying to sell my tuner. Just offering suggestions. I'm pretty sure there are many tuners out there that are capable of the same option. I'm just not familiar with all of them. AlfaOBD might be an option for you. Uses the same interface as jscan. Someone might know what to change using that. To work disconnected you'll need an unlocked PCM and gateway bypass to flash the pcm and make permanent changes.
