I finally got the controller installed Its been so dang hot, its hard to go work on the Jeep in the garage.

While I was in there, I added a dead pedal too. Been wanting to do that for a while now.

Now that you have a dead pedal (NICE!) you might want to get a cover for your OBDll port.

I found that a dead pedal gets me jamming my foot over that way so to speak, with little regard ot what is on the bottom of my left boot...

IF your foot has mud, horse chitt, sand or whatever on it, it has a tendency to fly/fling, get into the OBDll port which is a real problem. I had that happen years ago and it cost me a bunch of $.

Anyway do consider an OBDll cover. I talked of my experience in this thread..

Good advice. Thanks.
I'll take a look at doing that.

@JLURmojito thanks so much for this. They are telling me to use the 3073-P. Any experience with this? It didn't work in my 2018 JLUR.

3073-p should work, if you have the factory tow package.
Cut off the end of the plug from the redarc unit, and the plug end from the 3073-P. Match up the wire colors and reconnect. (black to black, white to white, red to red, blue to blue)

Keep in mind, if there is no Diode in line..(which 3073 should).you will get feedback and freak out the jeep/get messages on the dash...and if I remember it disables one of the safety/traction...

Do you have any more information on what exactly installing this would disable in the safety/traction department?

I have installed a Hopkins Insight controller into my JLU as well using the factory connector, and my brake controller works fine, but I get the same warning lights, unfortunately FCA has no fix for it, and in Indiana if I tow my trailer with the Electronic Stabilty Disabaled and get into a wreck, I'm pretty sure I'm going to own the wreck, no matter who's fault it is. So I have a 1 year old Coachman 17BH Clipper for sale, that I can no longer tow. Really sucks, because the whole reason I bought the JLU was to tow my camper.

There are other posts earlier in this original feed as well that mention this.

I used the third brake light white wire with green stripe to trigger my controller and have had no issues

Does that 3rd brake wire give you pedal sensitivity when braking? Or is it literally the trailer brake is on or off?

I think that's more up to the controller to decide.
Most good ones have multiple modes based on how hard you're braking.
Super cheap ones may not.

The cheap ones don't have inertia/g-sensors. Thats why the betters ones have to be mounted in a particular way, as well they also have gain settings to apply more brakes...and other also have a manual break ...that can be applied without pressing the brake pedal.

I have the Tekonsha P3 controller
Read through this entire post :whew:
Let me see if I have this correct:
Pigtail 3024 needs the blue and black wire swapped in-order to work. Yet trailer brake lights don't work with the boost button
Pigtail 3073 is good to go as is (I have not seen if the trailer brake lights work with the boost button or not)
Approx $70 more for the 3073
Both plug into the Jeep tow package wire at wall of driver, both will plug into my Tekonsha controller?

My 2018 JLU has the tow package

Thank you for all the clearness and murkiness of this thread. Lots of twists and turns. Enjoyed the read:like:

Thank you in advance,

I think that sums it up. Clear as mud.

I just don't want to go the route of switching wires, diode/no diode etc on this rig. As painful as it is, I'm gonna wait for the MOPAR OEM controller to be released for the JL's.
Ya go jacking around with electronics on these new rigs and end up frying something, you'd really be pissed.

I completely agree
Yet, have you read the entire thread :whew:

If you need to tow now, what would your plan be?

Appears to me that many folks have done all of the footwork and discovered the best route to go, at this point and time

I just haven't seen any conformation that the 3073 triggers the trailer brake lights when the boost is initiated :movember:
