Had a few jeeps in the past CJ, TJ, and still have a 48 overlander but just bought my 1st new one JL sport S. So much plastic. Can't use paste wax on fenders or third top as rough texture. Looked on this forum and people talk about fenders but what about the hard top.

Use a ceramic spray coating, like Turtle Wax or Mothers. Turtle Wax Ice also works well. Do not use anything with abrasives, like a claener wax, as the black paint on the hardtop is thin and single stage. You don't want to rub through it. If you use anything that leave a white residue behind, you will have heel getting it out of the texture on the top.

The fenders and bumpers are molded in color, so that's not a concern. You don't want to use Armor All on them, as it will pull chemical s out and they will turn grey over time. You can use ceramic spray on those or 303 protectant.

I give a thorough Maguire's wax twice a year and in between use Turtle wax Ice. With the Ice it does not discolor the fenders, top or any other plastic so it's fast and easy to apply.

Thanks seen this turtle wax ice come up before so will check it out. Looks like you don’t clay mitt anything. Got a local farmer with a CJ-2A in his barn. Farmers around here had a lot of old jeeps they run their turn rows with. Now the use side by sides.

I have clay barred it once but haven't felt the need to do it again yet. My two good waxes and maintenance spray in between seems to be working out good and my plastic still looks good. I see an occasional CJ5 here, which seem really old and dangerous now lol.

On the hardtop, if not paint matched, then use Aero-space 303. On your fenders, if not color matched, then use Meguiar's Ultimate Black.

My Jeep is garage kept and leads a pretty sheltered life.

But, I was taking the hard top off for the first time this season the other day and noticed the foam pad on the base of the hard top (where it sits against the body) had stuck to the body in a few places near the tail gate. On the driver side was just a bit of foam residue that separated, but the passenger side had a decent chunk that stuck to the body.

What is the best way to prevent that?

Wax the tailgate and 303 on the rubber seal that's on the bottom of the rear glass.

I'm really glad this question was asked, and I stumbled upon it however, I'm just a tad confused. Is it safe to use the turtle wax ice on both the fenders and hard top? Also, the turtle wax ice has about 6 different flavors, which one y'all like the best? Hybird, 3 in 1, ceramic, seal & shine.

Thanks

I use the ceramic and it is safe on the fenders and top. Black magic works well too but I don't care for the greasy residue.
