I know but if you go to any CDJR dealership today then you’ll see that 99% of Wranglers are easy 45k+
Custom order, dealers most likely are only stocking stuff that they can profit from to pay the rent, if they stock bare bones low profit vehicles they would probably be out of business.

Also Jeep needs to be able to customize some options instead of grouping things like leather, tech etc.. not everyone wants to bundle 5k worth of options if all they want is heated seats... That could help some people get into these cars for less cost and broaden it's customer base.
Yea if I want non ? sound, and go the route of the Alpine, I have to pay $2k+ for a bundle of junk I don't want.

As it is with the base sound they should offer no radio and speakers, because it's utter ?, which means that stuff ends up in the garbage when you remove them to install something else.

The expensive base wheels is another item that ends up in the landfill for a few people.

Isn't that mostly a function though of what options the dealer orders for their inventory,...
You're both correct.

The mean price of lot stock Wranglers at my CDJR dealer in late 2020, when I ordered my '21 JLU, was in excess of $50K. My salesman confirmed my guess that their Jeep inventory was configured with what a plurality of customers wanted on their Wranglers.

While there, I declined a fair deal on a customer refusal Sport that just came off the truck. The wife literally refused to co-sign the loan ppwrk. when she discovered that the new JLU that her husband ordered had manual windows, mirrors and door locks. The poor dear!

I'm no audiophile, and even I noticed the unignorably flat acoustics of the factory speakers. Replacing the dash-top speakers with a pair of Infinity Reference speakers made a world of difference.

My '95 YJ had the radio delete option. With backup cameras being required by Federal regulation as of May 2018, and taking into account the expectations of today's consumers, I'd wager that it simply isn't possible to do the same today as was done as recently as the 90s. See the 2nd paragraph, above, for a real-life example of that.

True

I didn't realize the YJ had a radio delete, I bought my YJ used, it had a radio, but it was probably better off with no radio, I eventually added an amp and bazookas, but that meant I had to be wary of where I was parking and top down etc, one reason I prefer the built-in systems, for no worries security.

I got an amazing deal on a 2015 customer refusal a few years ago, it was a Sahara with almost zero options, no Alpine,

Apparently the guy that ordered it didn't realize the $2k radio didn't include the Alpine.

Weird a $2,000+ radio, but no Alpine, the Alpine was a separate option.

Anyhow I removed the factory speakers, which ended up in the garbage, and installed some Kickers which were ok, but they cost over $300, but wasn't anything close to the sound of the $500 Alpine, plus removing the knee speakers was a pain.

I think the 2007 had an infinity system, that system was pretty good, so going from that in a 2 door with infinity to a non premium sound 4 door, the poor quality was deafening.

Something like the Wrangler is definitely not a vehicle "average" people should be buying, it's got ? mpg, and not practical for the average person, the Wrangler has always been a expensive vehicle that average people have always steered clear of.

i personally never recommend the Wrangler to anyone, I tell them go rent one and decide, they don't bother renting or buying.
I agree the driving dynamics, ride quality, and efficiency or lack there of may not be what the average person may want or need, but the financial ability to acquire a Jeep Wrangler should definitely remain in the wheel house of the "average American" if the Jeep brand is to survive and remain relevant, I simply don't believe the Wrangler was ever or should ever be in the luxury or high performance sports car price territory...

same thing here in August... same MSRP, same Fed/State incentive, Jeep 1k and about 1% off ( not much discount in NYC area unless I ordered special and waited for del ), but did no $ down - just taxes, 1st and fees. Used Aly and checked my buy out last week - around $61k + tax. Love the car, just not sure I want to keep it long term / reliability / next couple of years improved battery etc. But it is tempting :)

Needless to say I was looking for a 24 Sahara 4xe to replace my 19 Sahara 3.6 and was kind of surprised how the same sahara i had bout 4 years ago for 50k otd w/ tax was now going to run over 64k... I did pull a nice amount of equity out of the '19 so went for the rub x 4xe.

Will I do it again in 3 years... depends... Hopefully prices aren't going to be 90-100k bc at that point I'm getting a Porsche or another Benz...

Jeeps being expensive is the only reason you're getting any equity.
If you keep trading in vehicles every three years it will only get you back on the finance train.
Look at the Honda build page they are charging you for mud flaps and badging ...?

Sadly the "average people" have told the government to ban cheap gas vehicles, and replace with expensive EVs.

Well I'm not on board with that whole agenda... but for funsies I just went to chevy build and price and for 42k can get a decently equipped, brawny looking Colorado TrailBoss...and that comes standard with a potent motor and auto...we can't even get the most basic sport 4dr for that...I agree everything is overpriced, or at least it feels that way, point being there are a lot of really nice alternatives for a lot less than the Wrangler, options I will be forced to explore down the line, at present I'm on my 3rd Wrangler in a row, driven nothing but since '09...

The Trail Boss resale value plummets significantly, seems no one wants a used TB, like some have mentioned, we get back a fair chunk of our money on the Wrangler, so high resale has to count for something.

One reason I keep buying the Wrangler is that something simple as a damaged bumper can be fixed for a couple hundred of dollars(take off parts) and we can replace these parts ourselves, other vehicles will cost a lot of money to fix.

And I have taken advantage of that resale value several times, only reason I felt comfortable to purchase my present Sahara at 46k in '21. Don't get me wrong, if I could comfortably afford a 392 while still being able to pay mortgage, insurance, student loans, taxes, retirement, kids college, etc...I would have one in my garage for sure, but even though my wife and I do well together by most standards (I'm a PA, she's an NP), we don't do well enough to swing that beautiful wonderous Hemi unfortunately... oh and we just decided we wish to send our kids to a private school for middle and high school so yeah no 392 for me!

Not really a good comparison. If you remove the doors and top from a Trail Boss you’ll likely battle water intrusion later on. Probably won’t be worth much down the road.

Actually, it is quite the opposite; It's the government that is pushing the "average people" to get rid of cheap gas vehicles and replace them with expensive (taxpayer subsidized) EVs. Many people fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

There are no free rides, and the government has no money of its own... Those tax breaks "incentives" are paid for by you and I.

It's known as "Social Engineering" and our government is perfectly aware of it. Too bad the "average people" are not.

?
Per the configurator website, the 2024 JLU Sport starts at $37,990.00, inclusive of the $1,895.00 destination fee. That's $4K less than the TrailBoss, or $6K if the delivery cost is removed (was that fee included in the Colorado's $42K?)
