Had to right the universe and get the 706's since you betrayed our Lord Method..

Very nice! Come back and post pics! I’m still a fan, they just don’t make a size that fits for me

Good choice at any rate. See if they will sell you extra rings. The kind of luck I have is that I would need them 5 years from now and be told they are no longer made. Had that happen with some Weld wheels once, I needed a new one and it was out of production. That having been said, might as well get an extra wheel too.

On our recent venture out west we lost a few bolts on the OE Xtreme Recon beadlock wheels on day one and had to make an emergency pit stop in Colorado that involved some begging, and some breaking down of our wheels in a Big O'Tire parking lot so they could mount the tires in a "normal" fashion on the wheels. Problem is, the wheels aren't wide enough to be within spec for the 37's unless they're mounted as beadlocks. That combined with the fact that one of my wheels isn't even machined correctly from the factory (the bolts bottom out before the ring seats) and it may be time for a new set of wheels for Jeepeto.

Option 1:
I've always liked the look of the KMC Machete. Does anyone here have any long term experience with them? Do they suffer the same issues of breaking bolts? I'm sure its more hardware and maintenance related, but I'm less than impressed with the Mopar beadlocks, and would like to have confidence in my wheels, so if they're going to be problematic it's a non starter. I do like the idea of a sacrificial beadlock ring on these for those scrapes and bumps they will inevitably face on trail.

Option 2:
Beadgrip tech from Method wheels looks promising. I have moved away from big trails these days in favor of "overland" style trails (still some wheeling here and there when it presents itself, just not chasing it) The added bead grip protection might be enough to confidently air down to low teens or single digits for ride quality while having a no maintenance wheel set which sounds fantastic. Anyone have experience with these? Anyone with pics would be awesome!

Option 3:
I'm open to suggestions. Doesn't have to be beadlock/beadgrip, although I do like the idea of having something there to help keep the bead.

Thanks in advance!
I love my method wheels. Dirt head dave took the bead grips on the ultimate adventure and ran the muddy rocky trails in the 7-8psi range without failure or debeading a tire.
Also seen someone run them down to 1-2psi in the snow with them

I have the Method 704’s with 4.75” backspacing (0 offset) with the Metalcloak Gamechanger 2.5” Suspension.

You can get away with 4.75” backspacing on the MC lifts only with the wider Rubicon axles and max tire size of 37x12.50… might be able to go to 38’s, but I did not confirm with MC.

Running some XR take-off KO2’s on my setup now, and have been down to 8-10 psi many times with no issues, but not in pure rock crawling situations with those pressures. Definitely enough grip for sand/mud and minimal rock at those pressures, but I didn’t get into much side loading.

If I had to do it all over again, I would consider the Icons a bit more seriously as an alternative to the Methods. Better bead grip without going full bead lock, but I wouldn’t swap from my Methods to the Icons.

If/when I go beadlock, I’ve been seriously considering Traction Off Road. Minimal backspacing, locks both beads, and from what I remember, weight isn’t too bad (but I could be wrong on that - it’s been a while). Hard to beat that!

I have the shock relocation mounts. Just going based on metalcloaks recommendation ?‍♂

I really like the idea of the bead grip, but I’m already looking at a tracking number at this point ?

To be honest, I’ve been lusting after a set of KMCs for a while, just wasn’t sure about that price and offset ? I’m committed at this point, hopefully I don’t need much more than ball joint deletes, but we’ll see where it ends up

You'll be fine with the -38 BS. Ran the Grenade's before deciding to bring the wheels back under the fenders.

Fair! I love the KMC’s and I know lots of guys running them love them. They were one of the first wheels I looked at when considering bead locks to possibly replace my current Method Bead Grips.

I also have the shock relocation mounts, but wanted to stay as narrow as possible so did some digging and noticed the 392 lifts can handle 4.75” backspacing wheels and has the same axle width as the standard Rubicon, so I called Metalcloak to see if the 4.5” backspacing requirement on the other lifts was to accommodate narrower axles, and it is! Not sure why they don’t list exceptions for Rubicon axle widths…

Ah! Good to know ? That should be spelled out better in the instructions for sure

Icon makes an "Innerlock" that uses pins to keep the tire on the wheel.

As I read down through the post, I noticed you seemed to like the bronze/gold look (which I think would look sick on your red Jeep) and, I was on the same page @rdfact was with the Icon "Innerlock". The Icon Rebound Pro's in brass seem to fit those two requirements and look similar to the Methods you linked in your original post.

Such a clean wheel design and you get serious bead lock ability along with no rings to worry about.

You may have to do a little research to make sure you are comfortable with the alternate bead retention style, but everything I have seen they seem to be a solid option.

EDIT: I think you made the right choice for you. Wheel them sumbitches! and we look forward to seeing the review.

You aren’t wrong ?

I agree they would look great, and, they fit my needs on paper probably better than bead grip and beadlocks. However…

I belong to the shiny boy KMCs now ? I promise not to remain mall rated for too long

Well, I know you've already ordered your KMC's, but some info for others reading this thread. TrailReady makes beadlocks with numerous backspacing options. I have the 4" backspace wheels and it's perfect for a Rubi on 37's. They make from 3.5" to to 6" in 0.5" increments.
