I want the Grand Cherokee to become badass like the XJ. With nice SUV body to steal the 4Runner and Bronco's lunch. The Wrangler cannot do that because no matter what you do it's still a Wrangler

I think there was a time in the '80s and '90s when Grand Cherokee and the 4Runner were fighting it out. They were even throwing V8's at each other. Now Grand Cherokee has become a stupid boring SUV ☹

This is probably old news:

Codenamed J70, the most technologically advanced Wrangler of them all is getting BEV and REPB versions. BEV stands for battery electric vehicle, whereas REPB is the pompous way of saying that a combustion engine will be used as a generator. The Range Electric Paradigm Breaker powertrain will debut in the Ram 1500 in the near future, joining the 2025 Ram 1500 REV battery electric truck on the STLA Frame body-on-frame architecture.

With the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 expected to be dropped in 2028, the most likely candidate for a combustion-engined Wrangler comes in the form of the 2.0-liter Hurricane I4. It would be only natural for the folks at FCA US LLC to sweeten the deal with the 3.0-liter Hurricane I6, a twin-turbo sixer that powers – believe it or not – the 2025 model year Ram 1500 TRX. Clearly not as exciting as the 6.2-liter Hellcat V8, said engine makes 510 horsepower and 500 pound-feet (678 Nm) in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

At this point anything electric beyond a 4xe is up in the air. Additionally, the Hurricane I6 has been shown to be a nightmare from a reliability perspective.

It's a ten year cycle. The Wrangler nameplate started in '87 with the YJ, '97 was the TJ, '07 JK, and they got off a bit with the JL starting in '18. Don't expect to see any real clues until '27. They usually work some of the new design ideas into the EJS the year before the model change.

We have a Wagoneer. No one should ever think that any of them are made for more than a gravel driveway. It’s an excellent highway vehicle though.

As far as the next gen Wrangler, I’m sure the J70 is well on it’s way to development. But, Jeep knows it invested too heavily into electric. While it may be too late to fix the J70, it may not necessarily be branded a Wrangler.

Don’t be surprised to see the JL live on with more updates for a longer period than it was designed for. Everything at Stellantis/Jeep is going to be turned upside down. The new STLA CEO takes charge this coming Monday. Taveres left the place a mess, and there is much that has to be fixed. Wranglers and pickups can carry on with longer life spans than CUVs and cars. The basic CJ7 tub, doors and hardtop lived on from 1976 to 2006, with a few changes here and there to accommodate new frames, along with design tweaks.

Honestly, if anyone is not into solid front axle and amazing Wrangler angles, there are better vehicles out there including the badass GX Overtrail.
I'm super happy with my Jeep, won't exchange it for 10 GX Overtrails.
There is nothing like that 🤩
