that's funny, sometimes i think i'd prefer a gladiator.

when i watch videos of the paid kitted out sponsor crap i'm reminded of all the things i think i want and very few of that i actually need.

reboot what you think you need for your jeep, load up your dog, your gear and go.

So I have decided to keep what I have. It's just the most economical choice and once I looked out the window enough times at it I was like "What were you thinking?"

weird, mine doesn't have trailer tow, but the 4/7 pin and wiring are all in the bumper. Mine has a 240amp alternator too..

How heavy is the trailer?
So I hadn't thought about this for a while but it hit me the other day when I saw my bumper... Why don't I just crawl under there and see if the wiring harness is there, and sure enough it is. At least there is a harness that is plugged into the back of the bumper where the connectors are.

I wonder if I have the 240 amp alternator too. How can I check?

Last I checked though on a Mopar parts website I do believe the fan, alternator, hitch etc. was all readily available it was just the harness that was out of stock with no ETA.

add your vin and hit go. It'll tell you near the bottom (mine is on page 6) what alternator you have.

It says 220 amp alternator. Also some other weird stuff:

full metal doors w/roll up windows - but I have power windows??

and it says "class ii bumper hitch" .. I don't know if this is supposed to be a tow hitch but I don't have any tow hitch at all.

you can knock out the plug in your rear bumper and mount a tow ball directly to it.

I apologize if this is not the appropriate place to post this, but seems the most appropriate place.

I currently have a 2022 Jeep Gladiator but it's missing a lot of things that I wanted, one of the most profound being the tow package. I did not expect the "It's out of stock forever" thing to apply to literally ALL Mopar parts. I was originally however going to trade it in for Diesel which was the main motivation, but then I discovered I can get more range by adding a LMR aux tank than I can from the Diesel tank that can't get an aux tank coz of the DEF.

I basically am one person who has a dog and owns a Jeep to go overlanding and camping.

I know most of you guys will say the Wrangler is better.. but can you guys give me reasons why the Wrangler is a better choice? (or if you decide the Gladiator is a better choice).

Reason I am undecided is because the Wrangler has better maneuverability, is better off road, and I am only one person so while I have no experience I think that perhaps the Wrangler might have enough storage for me and I can sleep in the Wrangler without too many upgrades so I can go overlanding out of the box, and I have a ground tent. With the Gladiator I have to get like a camper or RTT or something.

I'm also worried that Jeep is going to ruin the Wrangler in the 2024 refresh. I am getting this from the new 20th anniversary editions that are coming out with that horrible grille that resembles the Wronco thing they put images out of earlier this year that has that grille.
You already named most of the reasons Wrangler is better than Gladiator.

Namely:
  • More maneuverable around town and on the trails
  • The convenience of an enclosed cargo space
  • Wrangler rides better IMO. I test drove a Gladiator several months ago; I didn't care for how the rear suspension "floated" over bumps
  • Wrangler outsells Gladiator 2-to-1, which means Wrangler is easier to resell
I do like Gladiators; they make me turn every time. But I find Wrangler is the perfect size for me.

With regards to sleeping inside: I am 6'0" and 200 lbs - I can sleep diagonally with the rear seat folded down and the front passenger seat pushed all the way up. But it is a tight fit, and not very comfortable for more than a couple of nights. If I were to do this for several days, I would alternative it with a comfortable tent.

Good luck.

I decided to keep the Gladiator just coz it's going to be a lot more debt like I said. The reasoning is I can buy a Wrangler next year or something and have both.. but I'm just worried Jeep is going to ruin them.. Everyone says the JL and JT are getting a refresh and they just put out those 20th anniversary Wranglers with that ugly ass grille that looks suspiciously like the grille on the Wrongco concept vehicle they showed a few months ago that looks like if a Wrangler and Bronco had a baby.

The only reason I like the gladiator is the ability to mount a roof top tent, load up for overlanding and still stay under 7ft total height on 2" lift and 35s. I would love that low CG non-tipsiness on my JL with a roof top tent (too much to ask) :D

I'm content with my JLU, and seriously looked at the JT Mojave when it came out. Didn't make the move due to my wife and daughter totally hating the look of it and threatening to refuse to ride in it..... Although that statement almost immediately made me trade my Jeep, had their reaction been different I'd be driving a JT Mojave modded like the Farout or Wayout Concepts.

The real reason for sticking with the JLU, is that the dog has much more enclosed space for himself in the back with the rear seats folded forward than he would have in a JT.

PS. Nath, if you are reading this, someone hacked my account :)

Go to the gladiator forum, you just need a hitch as you already have the wiring and it doesn't need to be the Mopar one as there are alternatives that are also class iv. For the inverter, the stock one is 400w which is only marginally useful, get the 1k DeWalt inverter run wires under the carpet and mount it under the rear seats, waaaay more useful and about 2 hours of work.

I have a gladiator and a wrangler, the wrangler is definitely more agile, but better off road really depends on what you're doing. If it's a tight trail with turns sure, but steep climbs and descents the longer wheel base is way less sketchy. The main thing is to decide if you want a bed or not, for me the wrangler is too small, I like to be able to load up coolers, tents, bikes etc all in the bed and drive off.
