As I get older I actually consider safety now lol. I have a Jlus and a 2 dr Jk, I was using 2 - 6 tons in the front and 2 - 3 tons in the rear. Any concerns about that setup?

Cheers

I have used these old 6 tons for years these are much older than the recalled ones and have served me well on more lift installs than I can count and used them again yesterday when installing another AEV 2.5 on a buddy's xtreme.

I throw these on just to add a little more safety. I've never had a failure so I don't know if they will save me or not but I figure they can't hurt.

I've had a fair number of jack stands over my 5 decades of working on vehicles. Most of them were junk. I was looking at my stands one day and realized I was putting myself in danger with them supporting my pickup. They were some 3 legged rolled sheet steel stands with a tiny pin smaller than my little finger, rusty as all getout. The other set was the ratchet type, built from angle iron, with a very questionable looking pawl.

So, I researched the subject and decided after reading about the back to back recalls of the Harbor Fright ratchet stands, that I would use only pin style stands.

Also, I found that there is indeed an industy standard for the rating and safety. ASME PASE-2019
Read about the standard here ASME PASE-2019: Portable Automotive Service Equipment - ANSI Blog Under this standard, jack stands are rated in pairs (3 ton rating equals 1 1/2 tons each stand).

I ended up finding these Jacks and Accessories - Martins Industries which you can buy here https://www.amazon.com/6-6-Ton-Stands-Passenger-Vehicles-Medium-Duty/dp/B09TTPB1R3/ref=sr_1_5?crid=240AF91G6ZQPM&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.YtrgS7g3yf3uBIFWEFwiMxGclsV7cK2vXVdef0poY267SrMKdq-2ls-qYrt7vEDgXG25ipUExI8Iy358EYyp-CdmxWVy9QqlQMpYIgjUVWiX8C2Uib-5pGQc5JyIFOQUYycbZWJxVfgb1IEn_AHlh5ncq9R46IcPPGuSbr3Q2KXK-wAAfBhneoHvZSJDeoeE2xe4fVgT21t9-Pz5igHX_R357YKwWEiQfOKbtQi6j5TLcQJ0tM0u9Zcj50Omw20Zs7iJe4bne4hI_F-7hmiL10-xN1DoXTFktdkAAQSM13U.VyU-7CEHEqmnok5k02kpClGapx2rVIpmN56c9vLo76k&dib_tag=se&keywords=martins+jack+stands&qid=1712754377&sprefix=martins+jack+stands,aps,142&sr=8-5

I never use the jack stands as the main support for the vehicle. I always use them as the secondary fail safe.

I'm mystified by what you then use as the primary support? Ramps? That would be OK for an oil change, but not very helpful when working on tire rotations, suspension, or brakes.

If not ramps or jack stands, then what?

Correct, ramps for oil change, and tire rotations you can use a floor jack.

You are setting the vehicle down on the stands, and leaving the jack with it under load, correct?

I don't care how well made the jack stands are, they'll never be as stable as wheels on the ground. Why are we lifting the front and rear at the same time? Even when installing full lift kits I'll do one axle at a time. That way even if you have to really lean into something to get it lined up the rig is still solidly on the ground on 1 end. If it's simple tire rotations, I start with the passenger rear where the spare rotates to and never need more than 1 tire off at a time.

Yeah, 1 tire at a time when I do rotations as I use my spare as the 5th.
