Oh, oh...here it goes again. Get ready for I love the Hi-Lift, it sucks, paper weight, it's priceless, never used it, saved my bacon, your dumb, I'm smart....

Ok, I guess I should contribute something: aesthetically speaking, the side mount is my least favorite location. I also worry that I might catch it on something as I get pretty close to obstacles on the trail.

I have a friend that thought it'd be awesome to mount his in front of his windshield. Yeah, it was constantly blocking his line of sight.

I really like the inside mount from Dominion offroad. Keeps it out of the elements so it wont rust or get gunk in the pin/spring mechanism. It's out of the way so I don't notice its there.

And you can mount an ax and shovel above the hi-lift. (Which also makes a kind of shelf between it and the roof where I stuff a first aid kit and other soft items).

Take time to shim up all loose fitting parts of the jack or you will hear some rattles using the inside mount. Once tightened up, no rattles and jack stays like new.

more votes for dominion off road!

to help with rattles especially when it's inside and you're bombing down washboard dirt roads.... obviously the handle/bar stop rubber piece that is available for hi-lifts, I also added some rubber matting to each metal plate where the hi lift mounts to the plates (cut holes in it to get the mounting bolts through), also before installing, engage the jack as if your starting to lift something (if you keep it in the release/disengaged mode, it goes a bit overboard on rattling).

Do you have a new bumper setup since your avatar was taken? Those plastic bumpers don't help much when using a hi-lift.

I did Texas Metal Works shelf for mine. The upper and lower shelf were very useful and solid. It's for sale in the members section.

Perfect for a simple Rifle Rack. Cannot be seen from outside the Jeep

I have this, works really well. Not as easy to get to as a hood or tire swing mount but really how often do you need it? When you do its there just an extra minute or so to use it. With all the mag chloride and other road crap I didn't want it outside where the mechanical components get all buggered up as stated above, that's what makes them less safe, that and the loose nut behind the wheel. That loose nut sometimes just cant be fixed, so at least the jack works well.

Hi what do you guys think Bolt lock J-mount Hi lift ?
The concerns I would have with that mount is that Hi-Lifts are heavy and it's only a stand off post at the bottom. There will be some flexing. Dirt would get behind that stand off and will certainly scratch the paint underneath it. The Hi-Lift pins are very close to where the front tire flings water, salt and mud. You'll need mud flaps, a wide side board and definitely a cover for the hi-lift's pin mechanism to protect it. If you do any significant water fording the Hi-Lift pin mechanism is definitely getting dunked which is not good for safe hi-lift use.

All in all, I'd pass on that mount. It leaves the Hi-Lift too exposed to the elements which could cause a failure during use if it isn't meticulously maintained.
