Interview Wanted - JL Rust Problems

The entire Issue is bad prep. If the doors were just primed before the hinges were attached and the doors hung on the vehicle for painting, this most likely wouldn't be the huge issue that it's become.

As my jeep will get parked for more than 4 months over winter I may take all my hinges off and do some preventative measures, only thing is I don’t want this to void any paint warranty work in the future.

I would be curious to see if anyone has not had this issue based on being a garage kept vehicle that rarely sees water outside of the occasional bath.

The warranty is 5 years, unlimited miles. The doors and hinges are both aluminum. The issue is the doors are primed and painted with the hinges attached so there is raw aluminum under those hinges.

That's not the only issue, right? There are lots of instances of bubbling that don't seem to be associated with hinges.

Is it even worthwhile to remove your hinges and primer/paint the unfinished areas beneath the hinges… being proactive with this issue?

Definitely an issue with the hem flanges on the aluminum panels. Still a prep issue tho

Mine is garage kept. Sees some driving in Winter and obviously some rain. I have corrosion on both lower door hinges by the pins which seems to be where it typically starts. It's a '21 with 19k miles and it started about 18 months into ownership.

Some of these responses have me laughing - sorry for my pending rant.

I like the corrosion correction, but people thinking weather/rain is causing their issue (or not causing it if they have it garaged) is laughable - it has zero to do with weather as it isn't rusting. The corrosion will happen whether you drive it like a Jeep or treat it like a Corvette. If it is going to happen, it is going to happen. What would be interesting in the 'interview' to me is what Jeep plans to do with the body itself and the multiple types of metals being used to reduce weight. Putting spacers essentially in door hinges didn't fix the problem, it created a spacer to stop the problem.

Also in my experience just cause you see a bubble under the paint isn't guaranteed disaster. My 2021 has had a bubble on the hood for years and it hasn't spread at all. I have more rust on my new Barricade bumper than the Jeep.

But in all seriousness, TFL should ask Stellanis/Jeep "why the heck they don't have one-touch window up features yet" haha.

Curiosity got the best of me lol. The sacrificial piece sandwiched between the door and hinge is certainly starting to show signs and you can see the door itself has some white on it. I’ll check back every so often to see if it worsens over time but i think I’m going to do a bit of diy body work this winter and just throw some automotive primer in the bare metal as a preventative measure.

It didnt stop the bubbling surrounding the hinges.

Is it easier to touch up over paint?

Haven't had a need to. No white shit leaking from under it. Just the raised spots on door that hinge sits on have bubbled. And my hood.
