So I bought a 2023 Willy's Sport for my wife (which SHE loves and daily drives most days). I get the appeal for its simplicity and being a "jeep" but after a few weeks of ownership I rarely drive it and don't care to.

Now I don't regret the purchase because it's not MY Jeep but I thought it would be different to hear from someone from my perspective on why someone DOES NOT like a Jeep! lol. Not bashing but it's like if you're a burger guy and keep getting hot dogs, other people prefer the dogs. Also this is a low trim Jeep so I'm not going to complain that it doesn't have leather, power windows/doors, etc. I know the higher trims have all that.

1. The biggest thing is the ride is harsh and not smooth at all, it's like I'm driving a little toy truck on the road with suspension so stiff it jars it's like driving with no shocks. Almost like a one of those plastic toy cars you buy from walmart with plastic wheels. It's night and day ride to my daily which is a 2026 Tahoe with magnetic ride and air suspension, that drives like it's on a cloud. Maybe if I didn't have that truck I wouldn't notice.

2. Sound insulation and road noise is prevalent, have to actually raise your voice to talk in this thing. Especially if your crusin at 80mph on the highway.

3. I know they make more powerful engines than the V6 in mine, but it can barely get out of it's own way.

4. Handling is piss poor, I think if I took a curve hard I'd be on my roof lol.

5. Interior space is small and uncomfortable, also cargo space is limited. It also has a tow hitch but the tow rating is non-existent. This is a #5 low complaint because I know it's just the design of the vehicle but affects it as a "daily driver".

Maybe some more, but I know if I took it "off road" it would shine.

But I don't know how you guys daily drive these things!

Do you have a picture of the wife the jeep and her # ? I'm interested.

No, I take rubi on 35's on curvy 50mph posted 7% grades in mountains doing close to 80, no brakes needed.

On paper I knew all those deficiencies of a Wrangler before I ever test drove one. I was so convinced I was going to buy a 4Runner until I test drove some and found they were awful. Like a product that didn’t know exactly what it wanted to be. Trying hard to be too many things and not really good at anything in particular. So then I thought I would go back to owning a pickup truck with 4WD. On a whim walked over to the Jeep dealer to check out a Wrangler and I was hooked. The Wrangler is so sure footed about what it wants to be. Like one of those billy goats that can climb up the face of a concrete dam. Inelegant, crude, not well under control but never out of control because the bounces feel like they are governed by Newton’s Laws not some computer controlled perfectly dampened thing. And ever since we were toddlers we all acquired an inherent sense of the earth’s gravitational field and the intuitive feel for what happens when we smash solid objects like rocks against each other. If the Wrangler was a character in a Disney Cars movie it would tell McQueen that it feels so unashamed about being an uncomfortable ride.

The phenomenon is real. I was uncontrollably smiling when I took my first test drive of a Wrangler. That sealed the deal for me.

You could just admit that your wife is far more cool than you & maybe even more of a man than you. That’s not saying that she’s not feminine, just pointing out that maybe you are lacking…?
I mean, a guy admitting that he prefers his velvety smooth Tahoe, soccer mom ride?
I bet you’re an elementary school language arts teacher, or possibly a band teacher. Majoring in the woodwind section? 🤷‍♂️

One does not DRIVE a Wrangler. One RIDES a Wrangler. If one does not understand and own this principle, one is destined to never “get it.”

I agree on most of these points.

But I still love the Jeep Wrangler. Nothing exactly like it, YET. The new Bronco (non-Sport-faux Bronco) was a nice swing and a miss, hopefully the upcoming Lincoln Bronco-esque nails it, or GMC comes with something impeccable. Would be even better if Stellantis (and CAFE standards) stopped trying to destroy the 8 decades of specialized legacy the OG Jeep brand has, and is still barely hanging onto.

I’m entering JeepDom from a very different trajectory than most here, no intentions to do any truly ruggedly destructive off-reading. More interested in doors off, top back, gorgeous scenic trails than any rocky suspension murdering, mud slinging type stunts.

We both adore long hikes thru lush nature, and I can’t wait to do it the lazier way, from a Jeep lol …. but I’m one of those longtime “USA & euro luxury flagship sedan” guys:

Cadillac STS as a teen.

Jaguar XJR with the supercharged V8 in my early 20’s

two consecutive BMW 7-series after that.

JLU is my first Jeep. Always loved riding and ciphering in them since forever, since I went to a high school that had tons of skater/snowboarder/stoner types, a lot of whom had jeeps. And several exes had Jeeps too; was always one of the most fun rides, doors off or not.

as for your points of contention … that I mostly agree with:

1. I wish there were different modes like on my 7-series, that didn’t just change throttle response/curves, and transmission shift points, but also strut/suspension behavior …. To allow us to set a custom mode for max comfort. Then toggle it again for light trails, or another setting for launching these MF’s off dirt mound jumps/etc …. I’m sure even more others here would prefer an optional sport mode toggle, for those who want the fastest accel, and stiffest suspension to corner better, etc. I would love the maximum opposite lol. I need “a grandpa tune” / “cheapskate MPG tune” already lbs. I recall how nice the ride was in my buddy’s Range Rover HSE with the air suspension … or the adjustable bags on the 2010’s S-Class air suspension….. anything optional in that direction, on Sahara trims, would be most welcome, for us Mall Rated MF’s, who have been spoiled by lux flagships, and want to chill in these, cruising strips slow, with doors off, our legs dangling onto the running boards, like an inverse Rapunzel, for the sluts to grab ahold of and climb up in 😎

2. Especially with the 1-touch SkyTop …. haven’t bought a 4-doors plus two rear windows rack to store em yet, so have yet to enjoy a fully open air day.

3. I drive like Morgan Freeman’s voice, so all the engines have more than enough pep for me.

4. I mean, it’s a lunchbox on wheels, of course you can’t corner fast in it lol. But the one good thing about its steering is the fairly tight radius, no more 3-point turns like with my long wheelbase lux sedans. That aspect of the steering is great, in a large, packed city, with narrow alleys and tight street parking. My aunt put her metallic purple 90’s Suzuki Jeep sideways in a busy intersection when I was a little boy, and I always had that image in my head regarding how I envisioned treating any SUV or Jeep-like vehicle, once I was old enough to drive.

5. JLU, even though we have a loaded trim with leather, with almost all the luxury of my former sedans …. It’s physically a much smaller, more cramped, less comfy interior than I ever assumed. I’m a slim, but wide shouldered, basketball/QB/TE built 6’4.5” and 220lbs, and the Wrangler front seats all the way back, Detroit-leaned a bit as well, are as small a vehicle as I think I could ever tolerate.

It’s no Tahoe. But it is a Cadillac! And my wife loves to take her Escalade offroad! It’s even been on a portion of the Jeep BoH trail Naches Pass, near government meadows! I had to turn it around VERY carefully on that narrow trail. But she’s not afraid of some pinstripes!

SDi E-Clik will take care of your number 1 for the push button suspension!!

And I’m 5’10 330lbs and I daily drive a 2dr sport V6 6MT!
And when the Escalade was in the shop getting a new tranny we hauled our family of 7 in the 2dr sport and 4dr rubicon!
