One of my takeaways after my test drive of a 6MT JLU was that this is what the OEMs could get away with passing off as a manual transmission, now that the automatics provide the efficiencies required to keep the .gov regulators at a distance.I went and drove a manual 2024 JLU yesterday and was shocked at the soft, springy clutch. I took it out for a drive and killed it at least 3 times. The way this clutch seems to be I can't imagine trying to teach my kids to drive a manual with this.
I'll be cancelling my deposit and sadly looking for a better option to teach my kids and maybe consider the automatic to go have the offroad fun in.
Said differently, when the manufacturers don't need to care, we may not get something that works as it should.
Thank Heaven that the ZF 850RE is as good as it is.
