I have 2023 2 door Rubicon which I truly enjoy. And now am faced with the prospect of trading it on the 2023 XR 392 Reign Rubicon which is waiting for me at the dealer. 30k to boot with trade. 2 door is paid for. I really do not want to take funds from the market as they are -30% in the last year. Loan would be 33k at 5.49% for 72 months, which is not an issue. FOMO has me thinking to buy the 392. Practicality and financial common sense does not allow both in the garage. So I ponder. The 2 door is just plain fun to drive. But the 392 calls my name as it maybe the last of a breed. What says the collective???

I say if financially you can do it without putting yourself in a bad situation, it won’t affect your retirement, and it’ll add to your happiness then do it. You can always get another two door, but how long will the 392 be around as brand new?

You can’t take it with you when you die, I say.

Having owned and been around fast trucks and SUVs. - It's not worth it. The novelty wears off. Going fast makes more sense in a chassis designed to go fast - a sports car.

I am happy to drive my 2 door slow.

just my opinion.

Just keep what you have and enjoy life. The economy isn’t getting better anytime soon. The 392 will average about 12 MPG and the insurance will be more. Debt is something everyone should avoid right now. But, if money is no object, go for it. Some are just fortunate that way.

Yeah, it’s the last of the V8s, but it was a short run anyway. People have been happy without a V8 in a CJ/Wrangler for decades. The color is also rare, but rare colors tend to age a vehicle more.

All the above is just my opinion.

I have a 22 TRX like you and I suspect you enjoy the fun of that performance setup...it's the same feeling in the jeep. Best decision I made was to get that 392. I almost backed out as the time came around, inflation, rates, etc., but man am I glad I pulled the trigger.

You live once and no one knows when the ticket is punched. You sound like you have a good grasp on your money.... pull the trigger, you won't regret it.

With a hemi, you're basically paying for the ability to say you have a hemi jeep. Except for some few very specific uses, the 392 wont do anything a 3.6 wont do.

Having said that, if you can and want to pay 30k for the label and the sizzle, go for it.

I can't make any sense of being wise enough to leave money in until the value comes back up, but on the other hand, buy a vehicle that will quickly loose value.

All ICE vehicles will loose worth as the unevitable electrical transition approaches and it's coming fast. That is totally the reason why I am keeping my paid for Jeep too.

I must not understand something for sure, cause I can't understand why we are still heading that way while scientists are lifting all the flags in regards of the damages that building EV batteries represents.

No, long story....had a 392, traded it on a TRX, traded the TRX on a still to be allocated ZO6 C8. Local Chevy dealer has 90k of my cash waiting for an allocation. Ordered the 392 on a whim as my first CJ was purple, thus the Reign. Timing was right, made a few bucks on first 392, and on the TRX. Chevy dealer would only give me the ZO6 if I traded the TRX. It left the garage at 250 miles. When I traded 21 392 I thought TRX would be more practical. Wrong! Big, heavy, thirsty and a beast to drive. The 2 door was an even trade for 2 bikes I had. Riding buddy of 50 years died, so gave up 2 wheels. That's the sad story of how I ended up with a 2 door and a 392 sitting on the lot. Ugh.

Your money. Just know that the 392 is not “fast”. It is Quick (darn quick), but the handling, ride, etc. are going to be basically the same as otherJLU’s. It’s going to be more expensive to insure, get worse fuel economy (and fuel costs are only going to increase in years to come) and won’t be anywhere near as agile as your 2 dr. IMHO opinion it’s not likely to become a “collector’s item” for quite a few years given the numbers being made. I drove one, really liked the sound, but too me it just flat wasn’t worth the $$$ to ME. Too many trade offs for power I’d never use (does sound darn nice though?) . How often do you really “floorboard” your 2dr? I very seldom use the all the power my 2.0 puts out. Unless you are constantly hammering yours what would you really “gain” with all the extra hp? Your call, just think carefully before your drop the coin. $33k would finance some darn nice trips where you could really enjoy and explore. Good luck either way?

Even if I was rich I don't know if I'd want the 392. I REALLY want the twin turbo V6! Until that comes out and if it's at a price point I can afford, I'll stick with my little 4 banger. To each his own though, you're the one owning it, not anyone else. Who cares what others think, get what you want. I got the little tiny 4 banger motor because I'm compensating.... :CWL:

Sounds like you're looking for people to make you feel better about spending money. As others have said, you only go around once. Do what makes you happy. I'm a bit of a 'buy my way to happiness' kind of guy. It doesn't seem to work. But, I'm learning at 66 years old. Best of luck with your addiction/affliction. I've begun to realize that doing things is more rewarding than buying things.

BTW, my brother (long time jeeper) and I were just discussing getting a 2 door JL in light of me having a 4 door. A 2 door JL would make so much more sense on the rock crawling trail.
