Same. I once attempted to remove a hitch ball. It was one that I had originally installed (w/blue threadlock) and hand-torqued myself. That SOB wasn't budging. That's all the excuse I needed to purchase a separate mount and ball. The experience also reassured me that my work probably wasn't going to fail under normal use conditions.
You might try a tool store if you can’t get it torqued just add lock tight to keep it tight ( harbor freight or tsc)

I picked up a 2 5/16” hitch at home depot for my travel trailer. For a weight distribution kit im going to put on it.

HD doesnt sell any sockets or wrenches large enough to tighten the nut. The biggest they have is 1.5” i cant even use a tool to find out what size it is.

i put a measuring tape on it and it appears to be 1 7/8”

it says to tighten to 450 ft lbs!! So forget an adjustable wrench like HD lady was suggesting.

i know people have trailers here and many DIYers so how do i tighten this thing? Anyone know the actual size? I just bought a monster impact gun and torque wrench.

You guys clearly don’t keep the right equipment in your home gyms.

(Bought for wheel hub nuts. I think I’ve used it exactly once. Never have enough tools! :CWL: )

Don’t grease your hitch ball and put a tennis ball on it. That’s what the old guy in the neighborhood did who worked outside in a white tank undershirt and khaki pants to his ribs. Yelled at every kid who got close to his lawn.

Just get a stainless one. Mine’s a couple decades old and has been used on many vehicles to tow thousands of miles. Mostly a 22’ or 24’ boat to the Gulf coast. Not with a Wrangler, though. All I tow with it is a basic single axle utility trailer.

what the defense lawyer will say in the multi-million dollar lawsuit when the ball comes off and the trailer goes sailing into a minivan full of kids. Lol
Tighten it by wrenches with Red Thread Locker(Loctite). It won't go anywhere. If you are really concerned, spot weld the bolt to the big nut, at the threads.

Nice. CDI makes quality torque wrenches. $$$
I own a few. It should include a NIST Calibration certificate.
