  1. Best AT tires for all driving conditions

Another vote for Baja Boss A/T. We have them in LT295/70R17 load E. Great on the wet asphalt, and did very well last weekend at a slightly damp off-road park… The E load sucks a bit for ride comfort on rough roads compared to our original load C KO2s, but those cupped by 20k miles anyway and we...
  2. We want to hear from you!

Keep the manual transmission around, but we need better clutch feel. Too easy to stall when starting uphill because you can’t modulate it well. A return to engines with more low range torque would be nice too. Full size dual batteries with a controller. Beefier track bars and reinforced frame...
  3. Thoughts?

You might have incipient death wobble!
  4. To manual or not to manual?

My dead batteries comment was about manual Jeeps sitting on dealer lots for so long, if OP wants to go test drive one of those. We were out looking at 6MT Gladiators a while ago and about half couldn’t be unlocked. It’s also something to watch out for if buying one that has been sitting after...
  5. To manual or not to manual?

To answer the title question: Manuals are a dying breed. I imagine you’ll still be able to buy an auto or hybrid later on. I would hold out for a manual. We have the 6MT on our 2019 JLUR 3.6. I wouldn’t call it “good/great”, but it’s not bad either. It drives more like a car than a truck...
  6. Anyone use their JL as their daily driver?

I trade off between my sports car and our JLUR for 3 days a week commuting, both 6MT. 70-odd miles round trip. Used to be 4 days. I do commute off normal hours to avoid a lot of stop and go, but it’s still 40-50 minutes each way on a good day. Here in CA, you just put on some good tunes and...
  7. 2020 JLUR steering issue

Anyone else get TSB 08-074-20 done and it felt good immediately after the dealer but got progressively worse? The return to center is a bit better but the play is much worse and it clunks a bit when turning the wheel with engine off sitting in a parking lot. (About 10 degrees of play.) (They...
  8. Bad bearings

Yep. We’re not saying you don’t have a problem with your diff. What’s messed up is your dealer is not addressing your braking concern at all so far.
  9. Bad bearings

MLC40: Sarcasm aside (and D60 has used it quite appropriately here), the dealer appears to be increasing the scope of your repair work to either take you or FCA for a ride at high cost of money, your time, and frustration. There is no “rear shift differential”. There is a “rear differential”...
  10. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

Wait... You’re saying there are vehicles out there that don’t even meet Jeep’s own basic caster specs for the JLUR? (4.7 or so, iirc) My JLUR doesn’t return to center properly and also doesn’t center up on the road even if I manually center the wheel, so driving in a straight line is like a...
  11. Opinions on the manual transmission

I haven’t noticed knocking on 87 on mine but I did move to 89 when we drove to the mountains during the winter to be sure. Running 91 vs 89 did not seem to make a difference the few times I’ve tried it. Chevron though. I run 91 in all my other cars which have high strung engines or turbos.
  12. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

That helps, thank you! When I originally bought the LCAs my inclination was that caster provides the main return to center feeling/force and there just isn’t enough on the Rubicon models because of the lift. Sounds like you had to dial in quite a bit of caster though.
  13. Loose steering feels like it has play and drifts

I have had a set of these LCAs sitting in the floor since thanksgiving while I wait to figure out if I need the dealer to do something with the electronics. Did your steering center play improve mainly because of the LCAs or did you do damper at the same time?
  14. Opinions on the manual transmission

We live in a world of conflicting information and the internet knows everything, of course. Hopefully someone remembers to post pictures when they drop their tranny. I suppose it doesn’t really matter though, since stock is stock and some of us will always just go with it and we find it...
  15. Opinions on the manual transmission

I poked around and found this part listing (not sure if we can post these links here? Mods plz remove if not)...
  16. Opinions on the manual transmission

Hmm, fair enough. I’ll agree with you that the engagement point is easier to feel on a single disc and I do tend to ride the twin disc clutches a little more when getting on it at anything between leisurely and full tilt. Do you have the 4.10 gearing on yours? I think it probably helps. Might...
  17. Opinions on the manual transmission

My JLUR has the 4.10 gearing so maybe that’s making my life easier. I have to try pretty hard to stall it setting off in first; reverse up a steep driveway is a different story.
  18. Opinions on the manual transmission

Oh for sure there’s a ton of rev hang from second to third. Sometimes I feel like the computer pushes the rpm higher when disengaging second. I never jam the clutch in before rpms roughly match on any of my cars or a least start descending to the right spot. What you gain in shift time you can...
  19. Opinions on the manual transmission

I guess I always fall into the category of “smooth” in the Jeep. I have my Porsche for aggressive driving. It too is a twin plate clutch as most manuals seem to be these days, and it’s never been an issue. You let in until the first little nibble and then begin applying a little power as you...
